Yep. In 2005, nobody could believe that in next 5 years, 8 cities in India would have operational or u/c metro. Few more metro systems are expected to break ground shortly such as Ahmedabad, Greater Noida.

That's not going to happen, trust me. Hooda is serious for pod taxis too

Only RRTS can (and will) connect such far flung areas.

Cool Ground work Begins

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...ow/7006909.cms

Groundwork for the Gurgaon Metro rail link the first of its kind in the country to be built and operated by a private company has finally begun. The barricading work for the project Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited is in full swing near Sikanderpur.

Barricading is done before the actual earth moving and other construction activities begin to cordon off the area for safety reasons, maintained a source in the district administration.

According to a highly reliable source, work on the site office at Sikanderpur is in full swing. The office will be inaugurated in January next year. Land for a casting yard is also being cordoned off near the Hero Honda Chowk near the NH-8. This yard will facilitate construction of segments to be used to not only ensure faster completion of work but also ensure quality is maintained. The segments will be first tested for quality in a lab at the yard before being launched by special machines at the construction site. In-situ (on site) construction at times results in loss of quality which will be taken care of by these special casts built at the yard, explained the source.

The 6.1 km metro link would be a boon for the people of Gurgaon, especially for those staying in DLF phase II, Phase III and Udyog vihar.

The six stations would span the stretch which has been done to ensure that a station falls at minimum reachable distance both from residences and offices falling in the area where the line passes through.

Starting from Sikanderpur, the metro train will run in loop covering DLF phase II, Belvedere Tower, gateway tower, mall of India and DLF phase III.

The train would run on standard gauge, which has been widely accepted as the best system for the operation of metro.

To facilitate the passengers, frequency of the metro would be synchronized with Delhi-Gurgaon metro to ensure minimum inconvenience to the passengers.

Are you talking about pvt construction or about public/social goods. Gurgaon is of course a leader in the former but it (still) lags in latter and still I cannot sense any urgency in govt to catch up with the lost time and pride. I wouldn't have bothered much if Noida/Greater Noida too were like that. I would have "consoled" myself by thinking that Delhi is Delhi and Haryana is Haryana. What can happen in Delhi cannot happen in Haryana. But I cannot apply this logic because of the example set by Noida. When a city in UP, I mean UP, the MayaLand, can match Delhi then why cannot a city in Haryana which not only attracts more investment but also ha other inherent advantages like proximity to the airport.

NO I am talking not just about the work being done on private front but on the Govt front as well...Serious genuine efforts are being put by the HUDA to do justice to the Tag of Millennium City that Gurgaon posses ...May it be electricity, Public Transport, police /security, Landscaping of the major area's, better roads etc etc.

Ofcourse Delhi is delhi however, gurgaon is a vital part of delhi now and is growing....

Question More roadblocks for Rapid Metro link

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...ow/7014690.cms

The Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon (RMRG), Indias first privately owned and operated Metro which is expected to benefit lakhs of office-goers in the satellite township, is stuck in yet another obstacle.

This time, an NOC is pending from the ministry of urban development for giving the green signal to its operations, according to sources.

Though this might not pose a major hindrance to its construction activities, the operations will not be possible at a later stage without the NOC. The state and Centre are still finalizing a policy for this pilot project so that the model can be replicated in other projects as well in the future. Once the two reach a common point, the NOC will be granted, explained a senior official with HUDA.

The RMRG was an initiative of DLF Ltd which was proposed in 2007 end. However, it later got into an agreement with IL&FS and, as on date, is a silent partner in the project.

The planning for this began in 2008 but ever since, the project has only been encompassed in some technical snag or the other. The first obstacle was to get started when the state refused to award the project on two occasions since DLF was the sole bidder both the times. The state had then called for open tendering. However, just to play his cards right before the 2009 elections, Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda had given it a green signal and had even laid its foundation stone in the middle of last year in DLF Phase-III.

The project had also been sent for financial reviews and to the law ministry for framing of rules and regulations. The project was aimed at starting simultaneously with the Delhi Metros Gurgaon line to act as a feeder line for the lakhs of commuters in the city.

S K Lohia, joint secretary at the MoUD, and OSD, MRTS, was unavailable for comment till the filing of this report.

Exclamation DLF Residents Say Metro Route Will Kill Green Belt, Write To Jairam Ramesh

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...ow/7014691.cms

Tired of the city authorities and the DLFs inaction, the U-Block RWA of DLF Phase-III has written to the Union environment minister, Jairam Ramesh, to help save a green belt close to the colony which comes under the proposed Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon (RMRG) link route.

The RWA claimed that the upcoming Rapid Metro link of the DLF, comes dangerously close to the home of over 20 houses and may also damage the green belt surrounding the residential colony in DLF Phase-III. The letter was sent to the ministers office last week.

Residents have nothing against the project but the Rapid Metro line should be constructed as per the original plan between the Water Tank, U-Block, and Cyber City buildings. This plan will not only save the residents from issues like noise pollution but will also protect hundreds of trees from being cut down, said S K Chopra, the RWA general secretary.

The RWA claimed that the revised plan will damage the adjoining houses on roads from U-1 to U-19 in DLF Phase III due to digging work close to the houses and constant vibration after the line becomes functional. In the past, the RWA had written to the HUDA about the Metro project but nothing came out of it. The residents had tried to meet senior executives of DLF about the issue but nobody is listening, said Chopra.

The residents are not just worried about the proximity of the proposed pillars to their homes, but also the noise pollution during the construction activities and later by the Metro rail.

The RWA has written to the environment minister and the chief secretary of Haryana government about the problem. The government must do something about it soon, said Chopra
