A great improvement! Now let's start work on the rest of the station!

By the way: The new line system is already signed here (D line in stead of Erasmus line).

I appreciate this isn't strictly relevant, but still thought it worth mentioning in case there wasn't much mileage in a new thread. That is the fairly extensive number of unused tram lines in Rotterdam. I have seen some of these come about while I have been familiar with the area through the re-organisation of lines 7 and 8, along the withdrawal of line 3 the day before I first arrived, but there are several more such sections and loops. In particular the Henegouwerlaan/Claes de Vrieselaan/G.J. de Jonghweg seem to form quite an obvious north-south route. Has anyone anything to add on this subject?

I like the new map. Especially when the network expands with the Randstadrail to The Hague, and the Hoekselijn to Hoek van Holland.

This is the current map:

This is the map as of 13 december:

This what the map will eventually look like:

A new line will be built (Article in Dutch)

In the first fase it will probably run like this (finished in 2018)

The extended yellow line will also be finished, by 2012.

In the second fase it will run like something like this (start in 2020)

Here's a better pic of how it will look like in 2018 (most likely)

I would hope they will build a stop at the University this time (in stead of a 10 minute walk from the university). Also, wouldn't a station at De Esch make sense?

This line doesn't make any real sense to me whatsoever. Predicted ridership is between 30,000 to 35,000 people a day; predicted costs for this line are 3 BILLION euros...!!! Just for comparison: the Noord/Zuidlijn in Amsterdam, which is currently u/c, will cost just as much (at least: let's hope so) but is predicted to serve about 150,000 people a day. And then still, 3 bln. euros is still a heck of a price tag for such a short stretch of subway.

Rotterdam had better revive the TramPlus concept, or look into a BRT solution.

This new line will eventually be extended from Zuidplein to Schiedam Centrum. So, this is just the first part of the line. It will also serve as a katalysator for new development in the deprived neighbourhoods in Rotterdam-South.

Oh and before i'll forget: it will also serve the new Feijenoord Stadium (80.000+ seats), so people can take public transport to go to a match

They can already...

What's more: buses, trams and subway lines all share the common denominator "public transport". So if you want people to be able to go to a match by PT, it doesn't really matter what sort of PT is used

Don't forget that the first phase of the new line will also serve a new intercity train station on the south bank.
Some (not-public) sketches of the new line also show a new metro station near Erasmus University although some other sources indicate that the only station on the north bank will be the existing Kralingse Zoom station.

Metrostation Blijdorp u/c. This station will replace Hofplein. A new line was built so the Randstadrail trains can run straight from The Hague to Rotterdam

The station and the line are opening in december 2009. On the following map you can see the old situation and the new situation. Station Hofplein will be out of use.
