I did mean it seriously, no sarcasm. But I made it light hearted as I dont think TN govt. has any such plans at all, hence it is too far fetched an idea, but yes it is interesting proposition, or so I think too.

..and while we are dreaming here is my wish list, make the Entertainment district, excempt from tax on alchohol

1. Create a New Mamallapuram 'Living Village' that includes.. ( like a model village with many facilities )
2. Homestays, mini-cultural market, hostels, model temple, park etc.
3. Pior for Chennai Marina - Muttukadu - Kovalam to Mamallapuram boat trip.
4. Living Museum.
6. Mamallapuram - airport shuttle bus.
7. Helipad at Mamallapuram with connection to airport.
8. Aquarium
10. Heritage Museum & Mamallapuram
11. Traditional art & music college/university
12. Open Air theatre ( for culture shows )
13. Bars, cafes, beach cafes, with regular beach fest and shows.

Yes this is a good idea

Nothing wrong in bars and nightlife if it is within some limits and we need to do this .

For culture people make Kanchipuram an heritage district and make a world class heritage village for 1000 acres depicting old south indian and also north indian culture show casing all great dynastics.

Here there should be setup to show all the information about all kingdoms like a trade fair for indian culture but it should be world class and give concessions for schools and colleges to visit and learn our heritage.

TTDC to soon introduce sailing near Muttukadu

Quote:
CHENNAI: The East Coast Road (ECR) is likely to become a hub for adventure sportsas the Tamil Nadu Tourism

Development Corporation (TTDC) is planning to soon introduce sailing along the coast near Muttukadu. The boathouse and backwaters at Muttukadu provide the prefect setting for sailing.

Sailing off Muttukadu will be introduced as a private-public partnership venture, as paragliding in Yelagiri and parasailing in Mudaliarkuppam.

"We are working out a plan to introduce sailing in the backwaters of the Muttukadu Lake and also along the navigable stretch of the Buckingham Canal. Muttukadu is a popular tourist spot and gets more than 4,000 visitors every weekend. So, sailing will be an added attraction," said a senior TTDC official.

Tourism minister Suresh Rajan and senior officials had inspected the Buckingham Canal last year to study the possibility of using it for tourism promotion.

"We are trying to identify those interested in sailing. They can pursue the sport on designated spots along the coast at Muttukadu," said an official.

Facilities for parasailing and waterskiing were introduced in Mudaliarkuppam on ECR in July. Two boathouses, one in Muttukadu and the other in Mudaliarkuppam, have high-speed water scooters and kayaks. On Monday, two water scooters were introduced at the Muttukadu boathouse run by the TTDC.

Last year, the TTDC conducted a boat race in Muttukadu, in association with the Madras Boat Club. The event drew a large crowd.

Yerlagiri became popular for paragliding after a group of 40 paragliders from various parts of the country teamed up with the TTDC in 2008. The annual event this year will be conducted in September in association with the Yelagiri Adventure Sports Association (YASA).

An adventure tourism complex is also likely to come up at Mamallapuram, near the Tamil Nadu Hotel resort.

What happened to that 'hop-on hop-off tour' by TTDC? Are they still running it?

This is a fantastic idea!! it would make tamil nadu or in particular chennai and its surroundings an attractive place for people from all walks of life.this would also remove tamil nadu's image of being just conservative and traditional. This would in turn would pull more tourists from abroad and other parts of the country with the variety of attractions in place.

The stretch of land on ECR till about 50-60 kms from Kanathur/Panayur is really a treasure trove for futuristic developments .. I am only afraid this
not be a case of treasure at the hands of 'apes'.

The govt. has to rethink some of its CRZ terms and layout a new framework. If not, it will be the haven for encroachers/poachers (who defy the law) and be out of reach for the regulars who have the lawbook for the pocketbook.

To this day, the stringent regulaations are only handy to the pathetic govt. clerks who gobble up huge sum as bribes everytime someone wants to find a way around. Such situations create perennial income so they can go scratching their heads every festival day.

250 bucks is very reasonable considering it travels from Government estate till mamallapuram with AC coaches... That too with frequency of one hour at all places... Cost is one thing which all appreciated.. but they need to continue this... atleast once in two weeks

We have already submitted a suggestion paper to make Chennai _ Pondy as Megaplois connected by ECR. State & UT Boundary is meaningless once the tax structure is uniform. For revenue purpose, Pondy can be a separate UT / State.

Seeing the future requirement, this ECR corridor assumes greater significance.

Since TN and Pondy consider each as competitors, there is no forward movement.

Central Govt, Enviro Ministry, Defence & Coast Guard and may be Commerce & Surface Transport Ministry from Delhi should also be involved besides TN & Pondy Govts. Economic Development as well as coastal Security demand a special status for this corridor. This may be a SPECIAL TOURISM ZONE with special laws.

Probably, this can be taken as a long time Objective for our forum.

But Kewl, I've seen this quite several times in Thiruvanmiyur and ECR. I thought, this is gaining popularity.
