I saw the tour bus twice a day at Madhya Kailash ( frequency might be more ) when I did my summer internship at Taramani from May to July. I also picked up a Ho-Ho Tour bus brochure at CMBT but I have forgotten what's there in it.

Fusionist, your idea for transforming ECR in to Entertainment Corridor is fantastic. Kewl, can we make a concept paper on this and submit to the necessary authorities?

We should also request for private partnership for few of these initiatives; just as VGP is putting up the acquarium.

One can even make online booking for that HOP ON and HOP OFF service in ECR

http://www.tamilnadutourism.org/hopontour.html

This operation is controlled by TNSTC-Villupuram, if it is with MTC they might have messed up.

The frequency is one hour - accepted.. But continously? No.... there's a time bracket.. like 9am - 11am from here to mamallapuram and then no other services... Check out this http://www.ttdconline.com/tourdetails.aspx?tourid=62 - I'm not sure if this is the updated one.

Wat if people wants to go to muttukad only and get back... they've to pay 180 rupees?

First n foremost, we need to make ECR more accessible by public transit. At least in the weekends.

Exclamation Chennai-Pondicherry

What stops Chennai-Pondicherry from being like Mumbai-Pune region? What can be done in this regard?

I totally agree with you Kewl. They should extend the metro to ECR. Also I had proposed that a monorail sort of system should be set up in ECR which will connect all the important Entertainment spots.

Do we have a world class theme park / water theme part in Chennai??

I guess the fact that they're not in the same state must be an issue..

Also, Chennai is still not so forbiddingly expensive that an alternative is required for industry.. Whereas in Mumbai land is so expensive that I guess it must be unviable for industries to afford large tracts of land for their projects..

Just my thoughts..

They should drop the idea of MRTS extension to Mamallapuram! That is one sick project.

Instead, they should consider Monorail from Thiruvanmiyur till Mamallapuram. This will be another advantage and a tourist attraction by itself. They can have stations at all important tourist destinations in ECR. Also, monorail is cheaper than MRTS.

Metro or MRTS is meant for mass transport, whereas the ECR may not have the volumes. As Kewl Batty suggested, monorail may be a cheaper and viable option. Even Buses are okay provided theycater to the poor and middle class also.

Why not Buses on fixed path (similar to shunting trains) so that they are not disturbed by the other traffic?

But won't this demand widening of the ECR in the first place? Think ECR should be made 6 lane atleast till Maamallapuram with wide median for metro/monorail or things of like sort.

Cant agree with u more.. As pointed out by many rail enthusiasts,Connecting Chennai and Pondy via mamallapuram shud not start frm Perungudi MRTS station. It shud start from TBM line near Vandalur or Perungalathur Rly station and shud run along Vandalur-Kelambakkam road for the following reasons:

1. Connectivity with Long distance rail and goods train along TBM line
2. Catering to future demands of region south of vandalur-Kelambakkam
3. More land availability
4. More importantly it will not mess up any future plans for a far more better RTS along OMR. (if they again start constructing along banks of buckingum canal, connectivity will become a prbm once again as the canal is neither close to OMR nor ECR. And it will ruin any future plans for a better system along IT corridor)

What I meant is the Quality of service and stations. And wat I was talking about is MRTS and not the main railway line.

Kelambakkam - Vandalur railway line has already been proposed in SMP by CMDA.
Chennai - Pondy line is proposed to be started from either perungudi or guindy.

Eventually, they might extend kelambakkam - vandalur line to Mamallapuram too.

This is not an issue at all. If you remember a similar proposal linking Chennai & Bangalore was mooted in the recent past. Karnataka was not in favour of it as the corridor had only barely touched their state and as such would only benefit Karnataka. They wanted the corridor pass through their state to Bombay so they can maxmise the benefits.
Being a city state Pondicherry should be glad such a proposal is mooted.

Chennai may not be as expensive as Bombay but still finding tracts of land for industries is a problem.

Aside from that if you want to attract investments you have to create infrastructure by means of such corridors and take further intiatives by providing other incentives.

Do u mean Parasailing?... It is already there in Mudaliarkuppam. Sailing will be introduced soon in Muttukad along the sea coast.

Paragliding is there in Yelagiri. (200 km from Chennai towards north).
