yelagiri has para gliding?

Wow! Yelagiri is very underrated hill station. When I saw Ullasa POaravaigal and Unnal Mudiyum thambhi, I liked Yelagiri. Much more scenic than Yercaud.

Paragliding will descend from the hill right? Or will it goes a little upish and then fall down? Even than it is in the opposite direction right, so whats the big problem. There would be a certain path that the airlines would trace while this can be incorporated in the short area surrounding the hillock.

Why i said about this is the fact that this is the highest hillock in and around Chennai. But yes, it is a defence area and I think there is a radio station or something at the top of the hillock. So lets stay away from Tirusoolam/Pallavaram hill.

What about Perungalathore side hillocks?

Guys! I referred to 'Para Gliding' without mentioning Yelagiri only to kindle your adventure spirit. Recently there was a three day festival there. The video runs for 20 min. I will edit to make it compact and upload .

Open air museum at Mamallapuram soon

Quote:
CHENNAI: Mamallapuram - a land that is strewn with some of the best in temple art, will soon house an open air sculpture museum. The museum, with 12 new sculptures depicting different sequences of Sangam epics including Silapadigaram, is being set up at the Government college of Architecture and Sculpture in the coastal town at a cost of Rs 87 lakh.

The museum would be inaugurated in one month’s time, said Dr V Irai Anbu, Secretary, Tourism at a press conference here on Tuesday. The sculptures are ready, which would be thrown open for the public along with a new park in the vicinity, he observed. “Besides, Mamallapuram will soon house an adventure complex. There are also plans for augmenting adventure complexes at Madurai, Rameswaram and Kanniyakumari,” he added.

Similarly, in an effort to create an awareness about tourism among common people, he said, the department is soon launching ‘Mobile Tourism’. A first-of-its-kind initiative in Tamil Nadu, a vehicle for the purpose would travel to various parts of the State and screen films on tourist spots. “Moreover, if tourism event is underway in a place, the mobile tourism vehicle will move to nearby areas to publicise about it.” Likewise, Irai Anbu said, the Centre has given its nod for four new projects in Tamil Nadu such as eco park at Tiruparankundram, tourism development measures in Sikal, Nagore, Veilankanni, Kodaikanal and Palani.

Briefing about the achievements of TTDC during the last three years, the Tourism Secretary said, tourism friendly auto rickshaw scheme has been receiving an outstanding response among the tourists. With this, we have decided to extend tourism friendly auto rickshaws to Thanjavur shortly, he said and added, Popularising lesser-known tourist spots, rural tourism, Viruthinar Potruthum, Bed and Breakfast scheme and cleanliness campaign were other special initiatives, he noted.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr A C Mohandoss, Director of Tourism and Managing Director of TTDC, said the Corporation is operating 54 tour packages.

Of this over 20 are getting good patronage from the public.

Earlier, N Prabhakaron, General Manager Finance, TTDC said, the net profit of the Corporation has jumped by 149 per cent in the last three years.

He said, “The net profit in 2005-06 was Rs 4.09 crore, while in 2008-09 it has escalated to Rs 10.17 crore. Apparently, the average occupancy of hotels run by TTDC is 62 per cent in 2008-09, which 50 per cent, a three years back.”

we could have our roads in Chennai have a touch of the Pallava period by planting such sculptures at various points in the city. I incidentally dreamt yesterday that Chennai is becoming a sculpture city with huge wide roads with brilliant sculptures in central places, roundtanas and junctions.

I even dreamt of Europeans talking to each other that they'd bring their friends and families next time to visit this amazing cultural city in India!!

Alas those are only dreams.
