I hope that the delay has some explanation to it. The Chinese are known to be on schedule for the most part. No matter the case, I am glad it's the Chinese getting many of the contracts and not our 'cowboy' contractors.

Can you substantiate that? Making false accusations doesn't help anything.

I don't blame him. Whenever a project slows down or stops altogether, thats the first thing Kenyan's think about. Its like a knee jerk response after seeing so many white elephant projects that were sunk by corruption especially during the Moi era.

Sorry for mistaking you for a Kenyan.

If you are a realist, then I suppose that you do realise that this project has been financed by the ADB, the contractors are on the ground and various other sections apart from the sections highlighted are still getting built.

Mbuku, if you have noticed, they have been bringing in materials (sand, gravel) at the globe cinema roundabout. Maybe they want to complete the flyover first before embarking on the other sections.

Here's the Museum hill section.

I also noticed that there is something being built at the Nairobi university grounds opposite the Museum hill/Uhuru highway roundabout. It looks like a bridge IMO.
These are good pics.i hope they will complete in time

Hi guys!

First of all I'd like to say a big thank you for this thread, as it's helped me keep people informed on what's going on with the Thika Road expansion. I especially appreciate the photos, as that is what readers on my blog have been searching for most. I came across this thread over the weekend, and was able to provide a link so people could see the pictures that you have posted here.

I don't know if any of you are daily commuters on the Thika Road, but I am getting requests for information from users. The latest one wants to know what is going on at Kimbo road and at the toll road. Sadly, I'm in the UK, so can't provide any first-hand information. If any of you can give some better intelligence, I'm sure people would appreciate it.

If you do feel like lending a helping hand to fellow Kenyan road users, you can find my post on the Thika Road expansion at http://bit.ly/d4CX5n I update it as and when I get new information, but the comments have been left open to allow anyone else to add their own contribution too.

Thanks for your time!

Steff

I assumed that the person was referring to the Githurai Kimbo section near clay works. They are still working on it. As usual, I will post pictures of the sections as they get built.

kenya is more like chameleon pace. lol!

3 things that stall projects in kenya

1)CORRUPTION the demon that crippled the country
2)inter-ministerial communication break down. the ministries sometimes lack the very basic communication like a memo that doesnt get circuilated. even the prime minister and the ppresident sometimes do not communicate. it is really embarassing
3)lack of visionary and ambitious leaders(self explanatory and self evident)

Well, in the private sector, almost everything is efficiently done. Though when it comes to government the picture is different. I have to admit the government has improved on efficiency over the last couple of years, thanks to performance contracts I guess.

You right. The private sectors are fast and efficient. That seems to be everywhere.

Governments are the Chameleons all over africa.

I think the best way things can be done, is for the government to hire Private companies to do the Job. Like the US does it. Hire private constructors and hold them accountable.

Btw; Do you know how is Thika Road is? are they also going to stretch it a few more Km?

This project only involves the section between Nairobi and Thika in Central Province.

I think you are asking if the dual carriage will be extended beyond this. At the moment, the dual carriage highway goes past Thika and into the farmlands surrounding it though this section has two lanes on each side. I guess it will remain this way.

The sections between Thika and Nairobi as well as associated feeder roads within Nairobi is what is being expanded into 3 and 4 lane highway segments.
