Upper Hill is also the Gateway to South Nairobi (Jamhuri, Dagoretti, Kikuyu, Kawangware).... when all these guys in the skyscrapers leave work, the oness in CBD are stuck in one BIG TRAFFIC JAM for hours. Is Ngong Road a dual carriage way all the way to Dagoretti?

There was a scandal sometime back when they were to convert ngong road into a dual carriage highway. come to think of it, it must be the only really major highway in Nairobi that isnt a dual carriageway...and maybe outering road.

My moms office is in upperhill,at Josems trust house next to Barclays bank, its so easy for her to get home, the only traffic she experiences is at Ngong road from Kenyatta.Which is better than being stuck in the CBD.

I am sure its just a matter of time before Ngong road will be converted into a dual carriage way.Though so many business will be affected, petrol stations shops etc.

Tanzania to build ultra-modern complex in Nairobi's Upper Hill

29 July 2009 | By Hellen Wangechi

Upper Hill CBD

Umoja House will be built in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area The government of Tanzania has said it will put up an ultra-modern building in Nairobi to rival Kenya’s new multi-million Harambee Plaza in Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete has said Harambee Plaza - scheduled to house the Kenyan High Commission - is “a challenge to the government of Tanzania to build its mission in Kenya as soon as possible.”

President Kikwete said the proposed Tanzania High Commission will be named Umoja House and will be of the same quality as the Kenyan one in Dar es Salaam. Umoja House will be situated at the upmarket Upper Hill area, just a few minutes drive from the Nairobi central business district.

Harambee Plaza, located in the low density Osterbay area - 4km from the Dar es Salaam central business district- was opened recently by Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki. The building that will also house the high commissioner’s residence is one of the most impressive in Dar es Salaam - overshadowing even the American embassy.

Speaking during the opening ceremony in Dar es Salaam, President Kibaki challenged the business community in Tanzania to use the available opportunities in Kenya to balance the trade between the two countries.

The construction of the Ksh420 million complex started in 2006. Construction tender was awarded to Tanzanian contractors and all the materials used to put up the building were sourced from Tanzania.

Nice. Just hope it will have a unique design. The Harambee plaza in Dar is just very large as far as embassies are concerned. (Sorry, I didnt take any pics of it since its an embassy and you know the rules about embassies and pics)
