The absolute minimum reached in Seville was -5.5ēC in 1954, but in 2005 Seville reached -5ēC in the City, and -8.2ēC in the Metropolitan Area. This year 2009 Seville reached -2.5ēC in the city and -4ēC in the Metropolitan Area. Seville cannot be compared with other colder cities, but It has got considerable records in winter.
The North of Seville can reache more than -10ēC in winter.

it's because the andalucian plain is surrended by mountains, and the sierra nevada range can block the mediterranean weather to enter deep, when the gulf stream become less warm around andalucian coasts, it can give andalucian plains very fresh air (similar to continental weather), and so you got snow

Yes, on fact, Seville has got a mediterranean continental climate with hot summers and cold winters, without usual snows in the City but yes in the province, and maybe in the Metropolitan Area (Great Seville). The last snow important in the city was in 1956, but in 2005 snowed without becoming set in some zones of the City. This year 2009 also snowed a bit in the Metropolitan Area.

Fascinating! But on that day when it was -5 in the city and -8 on the countryside, what was the temperature in Marbella?

-5 in the winter and +40 in the summer. Crazy town!

In Malaga (Costa del Sol), the temperatures never reache 0ēC. When Seville reached -5ēC, Malaga (and Marbella) had +4ēC.

it's really warm, but Spain is full of mountains (the second most mountanious country in Europe after switzeland, with an height average around 700m over the sea level) that's why winter time can be really cold inlands

By the way, Elsevillano great pics!! Gracias por compartirlas

Nice photos, but no credits, thus I will assume these are self taken pictures and move the thread to Urban Showcase. If the photos are by someone else, please edit in proper credits, then pm me and I will move it back. Thank you

Y AL ALBA BLANCA LE CONTARÉ LO QUE YO TE AMÉ ... SEVILLA!!!

Thank you so much Sevillano for sharing with us these rare pictures of the city. My favorite Spanish city is Madrid but the most beautiful one in Spain I think is Seville. It is a very pleasant and an unforgettable experience to explore the city by foot and do not miss the Barrio de Santa Cruz ( one time a ghetto for Spanish Jews) a lovely quartier full of fountains, little squares with flowers everywhere and where you can get lost in the narrow streets smelling 'azahar' if you are in the right season. If you've never been to the 'Feria de Sevilla' in April try your best to do it and spend 7 nights dancing in the streets with lot of flocklore , 'flamenquito' and the best of all: Meet the friendliest people in the world! One thing I hate from Seville? Yes, the heat in the summertime

I'm planning on going to Malaga in may to se Real Madrid take the trophy.

I'm planing on visiting Seville at the same time. How is the weather in early may?

In May is very strange to reach 35ēC, 30ēC yes, but normally in the end of the month. The minimal temperatures can reach 7ēC, even 10ēC in June. The maximum temperatures use to be 25ēC. May uses to be an unstable month, so I´d combine short sleeves with jerseys and umbrella.

Lovely atmospheric shots there of Sevilla in the fog. Though I still never appreciated just how cold it really can get even as far south as Sevilla. Great stuff!
