Well, nationalism that is not ethno-linguistic, is an improvement, i.e. the idea of a United States of America, in which all people are equally American, no matter their ethnic or religious background. Plenty of states in the world today adhere to this idea, (if only in name). And most of those states have minorities of people who see that state in ethno-linguistic or religious terms - i.e. the KKK in America.

How will Scotland pay for its public services without England bailing it out?

If you're talking race then the North of England is more "celtic", whatever the fuck that means. Culturally it's a shit lot of stuff in those terms. Personally I'd say upland North Atlantic.

Hate to throw this out there, but considering how wealthy Norway is compared to almost all other countries in the world, and Scotland's oil was deliberately hushed up in the 70s, we are ALL paying for the greed of a few tyrants backed by Westminster.

My thoughts exactly!! Have people not heard of the Danelaw? People east of the Pennines are generally of Danish origin.

No Celts in Yorkshire! It's the Kingdom of Jorvik god damn it!!
Yorkshire should have a regional parliament (we should have got the vote, not the NE – it would probably have passed here – Yorkshire nationalists and all)! ![]() I watched a political documentary on an independent Scotland recently. Anyway, the break up of the union would have a more negative effect on Scotland more than it would England. Just like with the break up of the USSR, Russia took its place on the UN Security Council, as would England replacing Britain, while Scotland would end up placed between Saudi Arabia and Senegal. The military would be transferred to England, as would the nuclear deterrent and all overseas dependents. Although I’m not Scottish, I think that Scotland as it is now, with a devolved parliament and still part of the union is the best mix.

Actually this may surprise you but a member of my family manuactures flags and sells them for a living. By far the biggest market for St George flags is Yorkies!

That's because they're stashing and selling them on e-bay to southerners for a tidy profit. The yorkies don't miss a trick you know.
