Vancouver:

Definitely in the top 2 skylines of the country as far as I am concerned. Don't think Calgary is comparable yet.

Vancouver has the density while Calgary has the height and my personal choice is I'd go for the height.

Calgary definitely has the height, no doubt. But personally I cannot just look at the height in isolation. Vancouver's density and natural setting are just too good to ignore.

To me Vancouver has too many skinny highrises with almost the identical height that makes Vancouver skyline look more like a huge and long concrete wall in front of the beautiful mountains. The skyline in the two photos you post doesn't look too bad but if you look at downtown from south of the False Creek, then you'd see what I mean.

If we're talking population density and perhaps streetscape, then Vancouver is far ahead, but in terms of the appearance of the skyline, Calgary looks just as dense, while it's also taller and has more appealing (less repetitive) architecture, and much heftier and more impressive buildings. In terms of skyline, I wouldn't even consider Vancouver as even being in the same league.

I find Calgary's skyline to be very aesthetically pleasing. I can only imagine how the skyline would look if it were an even bigger city

1. Toronto_______8.7/10
2. Montreal______8.0/10
3. Calgary_______7.3/10
4. Vancouver____6.0/10
5. Edmonton_____5.7/10
6. Winnipeg______5.4/10
7. Halifax_______5.1/10
8. London_______4.9/10

Could see Edmonton bump Vancouver down to 5th over the next few years. I like Absolute I & II in Mississauga, but the rest not so much. Vancouver? The city's quality architecture has become obscured by a sea of glass banality. Vancouver was an attractive city in 1985, less so now.

If we were ranking Grouse Mountain and the Pacific Ocean my ranking would change considerably. Vancouver: 6/10 The Surroundings: 10/10.

1- Toronto.
2- Calgary.
3- Vancouver.
4- Edmonton.
5- Montreal.

For me... Calgary has surprissed me, really really beautiful, Montrel has something which gives me a dislike feeling and I'm not sure why honestly because it looks great. But all of the cities are impressive.

TBH, calgary is only photogenic.. on real perspective, it's not that great actually.. (I personally think it's still small... )
But I guess it still is better than most Canadian Skylines.. so in conclusion, it still deserves the number 2 spot.

and yet, I feel sad that only Toronto has that scale in Canada.. wish there were more.

Vancouver has a very beautiful setting..
but further examining reveals it's not that well clustered.. quite spread actually..
and as someone else mentioned "short"
Vancouver:

agree, Calgary skyline is a little bit imbalance imho, they put two and will be three tallest buildings all on the eastern corner of the city centre and that make the shape of the skyline off sided. But yet, as you have said, it is still the number two in the country.

Since you agree with me, can you consider putting Saskatoon in the your top 4 spot?

just kidding!

Is there anyone in here who doesn't have Toronto as #1? Just curious.

Yes, those people voted for the other cities as you can see in the poll.

I know, but I want the names.

On a more serious note, I can imagine someone preferring let's say Calgary over Toronto if aesthetics, layering and quality play a big role.
But yeah, I have TO #1 as well.

Skylines that are made up of mostly office buildings always look better than skylines full of condos imho and that's why Vancouver is in number 4 spot on my list and it would have over taken by Edmonton if that city has the permit to build something taller than 150 m.

I have been to Edmonton so many times..
and I have no love for their "skyline".. it simply has no definition...
sorry..

FYI - I'm no hater
