What edmonton is lacking is the height and density. When you look at downtown Edmonton from across the river, it doesn't look too bad and those buildings look taller than they actually are because the city centre is on the top of the valley. But when you are on the street level, what you see is what you get, there are may be 10 or less towers that are over 30 stories.

On a more serious note, I can imagine someone preferring let's say Calgary over Toronto if aesthetics, layering and quality play a big role.
But yeah, I have TO #1 as well.
I prefer other skylines over Toronto on a number of levels, but Toronto just has to be #1 regardless. It's too big to deny it top spot.

Even with all the proposals on the table n Montreal, Calgary will likely be my clear #2 in a few years.

Isn't Mississauga considered a suburb of Greater Toronto? If we put the suburb cities in this discussion, there are quite a few cities could make the list. In metro Vancouver alone there are some skylines in the suburbs are easily beat the cities like Hamilton, Ottawa and even Winnipeg.

Winnipeg is too small, and Vancouver is far too cookie-cutter for my taste.

True that! Those people who run the city are a bunch of idiots! When they first built those ugly condos in downtown, they did receive lots of complements from around the globe for bringing people to live Downtown. So, I think they let this little success get too much over their litttle heads and all pump up and think they are architecture genius or something and go on to build tons of these cookie cutter and blanking looking highrises.

I was going to put Edmonton ahead of Vancouver too. Vancouver's sea of cookie cutter glass condos is a big negative, but there's still an attractive pre-1985 CBD downtown which is better than the one in Edmonton. I do think Edmonton could pull ahead over the next 10 years pushing Vancouver to 5th.

If that's what actually happens, then ok, but I'm concerned that what may actually happen is that it stays the same height and maintains the same footprint, and simply sees greater pressure to redevelop lowrise historic buildings for the sake of highrises so that the existing downtown can fit more stuff in without becoming taller or wider.
