What's the 5th skyline that challenges Montreal and Vancouver?

Edmonton is 5th, but quite far behind the top 4. It will get much much closer in about 10 years as there's a huge amount of development in the pipeline for downtown Edmonton.

I don't know. I flip flop between Montreal and Calgary for #2. Calgary is taller, but Montreal has better architectural layering. Vancouver isn't all that far off from making it a 3 horse race for 2nd either.

For now, I have it as follows:

1. Toronto
2. Montreal
3. Calgary
4. Vancouver
-
-
5. Edmonton

Montreal used to be the number one back in the earlier 70s and it was also the financial Hub in Canada but then it slowed down terribly thanks to the Quebec crisis until the last 5 years or so.

Don't really want to talk about politic in the skyline thread but you can find out the reason by googling it. But Montreal seems to pick up a lot recently and that's good for Canada economically.

no, its true that Burnaby has taller condos towers but Edmonton has more and taller office buildings. Burnaby will continue to grow as a super suburb in the metro Vancouver area with lots of tall highrises, some of them will eventually break the 60 stories mark in a year or two. Edmonton skyline is really nice already, all it needs is a few 200m or more skyscrapers and a few dozens fill in and its ranking could jump up to the third spot on my chart.

I dunno... I wouldn't wholly agree with that. Personally I would have both Vancouver and Montreal ahead of Calgary. Vancouver
for sheer quantity and Montreal for a nice mix. Calgary's skyline, to me, doesn't have a lot of mix.

Frankly, it's the best thing that happened to Quebec. Some accuse it of causing the ''decline of Montreal''...and making Toronto the economic capital of Canada.
But it was a time of major social changes, modernization of the Quebec government / society, the rise of secularism, introduction of universal healthcare, and emancipation of the the french-canadian population. During this time, a large portion of the Canadian elite moved from Montreal to Toronto, hence ''the decline'' .

Anyways, here are a few pictures I took this weekend from Silo no.5. Quite a lovely view.

Exciting times for Calgary. Their tallest is U/C while something even taller is at the proposal stage.
