Sadly we art déco wasn't very well received or popular up here. The main style of architecture (pre functionalsm and post jugendstil and national romanticism) was nordic classicism.

Bauhaus Dessau (1925)

The Bauhaus School in Dessau was designed by Walter Gropius in 1925, classic 20th Century Icon!

And, let me add few words to Rascian thinking - also, this buliding was designed by famous Serbian architect from 1930s. His name was Momčilo Belobrk.

Here are few samples of his work:

Although he was capable to create some structures that were more decorative:

Unfortunately, most of them are totally destroyed by improper renovation i.e. wrong chosen facade material, color, beautiful details changed to contemporary aluminum type, and so on...

Rīga, Latvia

Shopping center "Galerija Centrs"
ex. "Army economic store"

Residential building at Brīvības iela 90
1937-1939

The building at the corner of Freedom and Matīsa street (Peace street on the opposite side) was the last residential building built by the municipality before the Soviet occupation. It features a farmers market in it's backyard. There used to be a restaurant that used the fresh produce from the market, but I am not sure whether there is one now. Hesburger isn't it. Maybe I can't find it since the building is 170 meters long and has shops on both sides...

Probably it wasn't the architect intention but it looks similar to late Soviet post-constructivism from late 1930

Dahlis' picture above was taken from the bridge seen between the two towers.
