They have been working on it for decades.
Actually, it's not so much dirt but chemical reactions with the stone used for the cathedral that make it look so dark.

Sorry for the photo quality. I just had my mobile phone with me.

The centrepiece of the new quarter will be the so called Incubator Service House which will provide various services to the new business district.

Park Linné is pretty nice. I have family that lives there and I think you can sometimes meet soccer players from Cologne there in the local bakery

Found some in a real estate advertisement:

see here for more: https://www.immobilienscout24.de/expose/90242926#/

The factory once belonged to Sidol, a company which produces cleaning supplies.

^ Looks inviting! As I'm working with the German Aerospace Center frequently I guess that's a place I'll see more often.

Some fabulous examples there, Cologne really has something going for it now!
I especially appreciate the new classical and neo-expressionist buildings.

New Leverkusen Bridge

Today was the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Autobahn bridge replacing the ailing Leverkusen Bridge. The bridge is part of the Cologne Beltway and the Autobahn 1 running from the Saarland to the Baltic Sea coast.
The new bridge will consist of two parts with five traffic lanes each. The first half is expected to be completed by 2020. Demolition of the old bridge and construction of the second half will start afterwards.
