hkskyline's 2008 SEGOVIA, SPAIN Photo Collection

I spent a day exploring Segovia. With a high-speed train connection from Madrid, it was a breeze to get there. The blue skies followed me, and with a cool October breeze, I was off ready to be amazed.

1. As the bus went down the hill, I wondered how they could build this massive aqueduct so long ago.

11. At this point I didn't know I would emerge from here at the end of the day.

12. Let's start the walking tour!

31. History comes alive when you step into it!

45. Are the thick shades for blocking out the steamy afternoon sun?

46. These greenhouse boxes probably wouldn't stand well when the sun shines on them.

The walking tour has only just started. Stay tuned for the next part in this thread!

Great shots. Interesting tour. It's nice to see something else than the aqueduct as well!

53. This sneak preview looks quite good already.

54. Be amazed!

55. The square that fronts the cathedral is some of a mid-way rest stop. I was quite happy to reach here so quickly. Doing all my sightseeing within a day seemed a reachable goal. The space wasn't so crowded. Some restaurants set up chairs along the edges, but there was plenty of open space to move about.

62. 1917? It's not that old!

63. I recall a comment in my other Spain photo thread that I should visit the interiors and be amazed. I ventured inside the Cathedral and certainly experienced that amazement!

74. Continuing my walking tour, I photographed more street scenes and buildings that shone in the beautiful autumn sun.

87. Normally I'd be quite excited to see this, but then, I have used too much drawer space storing souvenirs that I never touch upon my return. So I'll pass.

95. Alcazar sits on one end of Segovia's walled premises. From there, you see the city, and you also see the country. The architectural mix is quite interesting ... a bit like eating fusion food.

98. So this is built on top of solid rock?

100. Rise, proletariat, and revolt against the bourgeoisie.

112. I wonder how do they clean every speck of detail? Do they need to be washed up and dusted at minimum annually?

119. Enough exploring inside. It's time to be amazed by the wonderful views!

126. This is the ultimate prize. After a short climb (nowhere as tiring as the ones in Prague!), I got a chance to see the whole city with the right lighting and skies!

136. Wonder if an army ever approached from the grasslands afar and were spotted by the custodians of this fort?

143. Leaving the Alcazar, it's time to explore the city a bit more!

157. This part of town was not prominently featured in tourist brochures, and hence was deserted. But it gave a real sense of what the town was really about besides the tourist shops and souvenir stands.

164. The Cathedral stands tall and proud in the distance.
