Wembley would make a perfect athletics stadium .... this whole Olympic exercise was just yet another excuse to throw £BILLIONS more at London and "regenerate" yet another run down area of London .... which in 10 years time will look just as run down as it did 10 years ago.

Trust me German friends, the British public (the 54 million people that live outside the capital) are by no means united by the prospect of the Olympic Games coming to London, it is something we simply can't afford.
Yawn.

^ Instead of just yawning, could you please comment the above statement? Because I don't have any valuable insights of the British opinion on this so far.

Maybe he just yawned because it is so tiresome to read so much. Anyway, I think there are different opinions on the project and its cost, but the majority is somewhat proud to host the games.

I yawned because very few facts are correct and it came across as a tiresome rant with little understanding. But rather than picking apart his entire post I'm just going to focus on the most ridiculous point:

Here's the Olympic Park 10 years ago:

Another photo of the Olympic Stadium site

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's how it looks now, still a year away from completion:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The change in the fortunes in this area are such that the Wellcome Trust wants to buy the Park, invest a further £1bn in it, and turn it into a massive research facility with University campusus, labs, parkland, and of course all the new sporting venues. The government are currently considering this proposal.

Of course not everyone will be behind the Games (though between 70-80% are according to most surveys I've seen), but it's hard to take posts like Sandblast's seriously when he's claiming the Olympic Park will be just as run down in ten years as it was ten years ago.

BTW Erbse, you're quite welcome to see more progress at the London 2012 forums.

I live in Manchester, and I happen to be very excited for the Olympics. There are always reports on it on the news, and follows up on athletes. You may not be very happy about the Olympics coming to our shores but please do not speak for me thank you

The British public's biggest critics are themselves
