No, the commercial building proposal is not a new one. I posted the rendering of polygon tech park in this forum in 2005 itself. Forum mall was proposed later.

Currently Prestige is developing four projects in Chennai.

Anna Salai: Prestige Polygon
Greams Road: Prestige Palladium
IT Corrdor: Cyber Tower
Vadapalani : Forum Mall

I believe the renderings of all these four projects are already posted here. If not, i will post them again.

It is likely, cos according to some news Prestige is planning to build a second mall in the city in mount road after the vadapalani mall completion, so that could be in this site.

The White Building towards the far end of the picture is The Hilton. They have now started covering the frontage of the building with granite (it cannot be seen in the pics, though a sample can be seen to the immediate left of the green signboard on the median, and the corresponding place in the first pic if you notice carefully)

What about the occupancy if all the 4 new hotels come up in 2010. I feel one in a year is O.K.

even i doubt it. with so many new hotels springing up and with recession coming on, i don't think people will be ready to spend much on luxury hotels. But the hotels are optimistic and are showing figures when such a discussion occurs. What i feel is that if they are satisfied with their development/expansion plans and projects let them carry on. They know their business best. and moreover i don't think it will harm the city drastically.
maybe on the brighter side we can say if more hotels come up, the competition factor will help in rate cutting.

Hey! It's the Kathipaara grade separator declining towards Ekaduthangal 100-ft road. The very first building in the left (the smallest one) is the Thamarai Tech Park, next comes the array of buildings (although a single complex) which is the Olympia Tech Park (the blue-coloured one), and the final one is the 11- or 12-storeyed Hilton Chennai Hotel.

Re occupancy rates of hotels...

Yes the projected occupancy is a matter of concern. But I think that these hotels will have a cut-throat competition on pricing.

And yes, there are lot of projects coming up in and around Chennai including the Financial City, and this will surely help the occupancy rates. I also wish that a world class convention centre comes up in Chennai.

Another thought is that the current and proposed 5 star hotels are all in the city (except Asiana which is in OMR). It would have been better if some were set up in the Sriperumbudur - Oragadam area, in the GST etc.

I think there's a convention centre coming up as part of the Ramanujam Tech Park on OMR..

Other than that, there's the Chennai Convention Centre as part of the Chennai Trade Centre - I've never been inside it though - is it any good?

Also, I don't think Asiana is a 5 star - doubt if it's more than 3 or 4..

Chennai Trade Centre is more functional with exhibition space and convention space, even though the design sucks.

We do not have enough programs happening there and so it is lying midle most of the times.

If Tatas can build a better convention centre, it may steal the show from Chennai Trade Centre. With huge experience in hospitality (aka Taj Hotels), Tatas, I am sure will deliver.

It is already under construction along with TIDEL Park III.
TIDEL Park III will have a 5-star hotel, residential appartment, retail, and a conventional center apart from the IT-park

You wouldn't have heard of it as Tidel III because it's being promoted as Ramanujam Tech Park - it's being developed by TRIL (Tata Realty) adjacent to the original Tidel Park..

Hey! I think Estantia's Holiday Inn Chennai is coming up near Sriperumbudur-Oragadam area, if I'm not wrong. No idea whether it's a 5-star. Think Kewl Batty knows it better.
