The crashed flight was OZ214 from Seoul Incheon to San Francisco operated by a 777-200ER (HL7742)

A comment on Asiana 214 so far: "the flight was coming in too low". Currently, SFO is closed, with incoming flights being diverted to other airports including Oakland, San Jose, and Sacramento.

Could have been worse. Unreal. I can't find anything about a distress call prior to landing and I wonder if the landing gear just malfunctioned...

There have been reports about the landing gear "malfunctioning while landing", but it's too early to tell. I'll keep you updated since I'm listening to live local radio at the moment... situation is fluid at the moment. With SFO closed, flights are being diverted to Oakland, San Jose, and Sacramento.

The plane touched down too early, from the air footage of the runway on the news networks it appears that it actually touched down on the waters edge.

If the landing gear hit the concrete blocks it's only logical that it malfunctioned, the main landing gear probably was ripped off the fuselage at 1st impact.

ps.
International flights are being diverted to Seattle and especially LAX.

The engines got ripped off early because they don't appear anywhere near the main wreckage.

Correct. For some reason, the reports have been saying that the tail hit the runway first, and the aircraft rolled over... Result: plane tilting, with the wheels broken off, cabin "bouncing". The situation is still very fluid, with news conferences by the SFO authorities happening hourly until further notice. I'm listening to live radio right now, with 10 passengers (8 adults and 2 children) listed as "critical" condition and have been transported to San Francisco General Hospital. And also, international flights are also being diverted to Oakland and San Jose International Airports.

Wow! Hard to pull that off on an ILS equipped runway. Can't wait to hear what the pilots & the black box say. Weird.

Can't tell, but there was not an explosion, which was expected of such crashes. There were reports of "ball of flames", but no confirmation yet of that. All slides and chutes were deployed, though.

Asiana Airlines 214 update: one runway at SFO reported to be reopened for landings, but it is unclear how many flights can be operated safely to the airport.
