The worst case is if a larger drone is sucked into the engine, it will cause serious damage which will result in an engine failure. Or even an uncontained engine failure, then the plane is in serious trouble.

United keep piling up the +Rep points. Meet Darius the worlds biggest rabbit.

United Airlines just killed his son...Simon. Simon was expected to be the (new) worlds biggest rabbit until he took a United Airlines flight.

Across the year, United carried 97,156 animals, meaning there were 2.37 incidents for every 10,000 animals transported during the period.
That was the highest rate seen on any US airline, according to the data.

Gogo and SES to improve in-flight connectivity over North America and Pacific Ocean routes

Global broadband connectivity provider Gogo has signed a new capacity deal with satellite operator SES to offer improved in-flight connectivity services for the aircraft operating in routes over North America and the Pacific Ocean.
Under the deal, Gogo has leased all available capacity on SES's AMC-4 satellite.

SES will shift the AMC-4 satellite to a new orbital location to serve flights to, from and within the US states of Alaska and Hawaii.
The repositioned satellite will also be able to cater to the aircraft flying along the west coast of the US and over the Pacific Ocean.

Airbus A380 cuts signal the end of an aviation dream

Last year, aircraft flew 3.8bn passengers, equivalent to more than half the world’s population, and they did so mostly in safety. In 2016, there were 10 fatal airline accidents, with 268 deaths.

This is a very elegant crash right into the carpark of Plainsville Police Headquarters ( who caught it on camera) ...and all involved are well.

AirAsia staff accused of 'screaming' as flight plummets 20,000 feet - VIDEO

http://edition.cnn.com/2017/10/15/as...sia1202PMStory

Passengers aboard an AirAsia flight from Perth to Bali Sunday have criticized the flight crew for allegedly screaming when the plane rapidly descended 20,000 feet, following an apparent pressurization issue in the cabin.

"The panic was escalated because of the behavior of the staff, who were screaming and looked tearful and shocked," passenger Clare Askew told CNN affiliate Seven News Australia after the plane turned around and landed safely back in Perth.

A strange incident happened at Dusseldorf Airport.
In one of the last flights of Air Berlin (it went bankrupt) the pilots decided to do a dangerous go around as a farewell.
The airbus A330 which came from Miami carrying around 200 passengers aborted its landing and did a low flyby around Dusseldorf airport.
Although the tower and some ground personnel knew about the flyby a lot of personnel and travelers thought the plane would crash causing a commotion around the airport as can be heard in the video.
The FAA is investigating the incident and the pilots are suspended.

It was an incident at BCN in 2014. But the two aircrafts weren't so close as it looks.

Report: 2017 was safest year for commercial airline passengers ever
USA TODAY Excerpt
Jan. 1, 2018

The friendly skies are safe, too.

A new report finds that 2017 was the safest year for commercial air travel ever -- with only 111 accidents and 13 deaths worldwide.

The two fatal accidents both involved small regional planes -- an Embraer Brasilia that lost control in flight in Angola after a reported engine failure in October and a Let 410 that crashed while landing Russia in November -- according to the Netherlands-based aviation consultancy, To70.

That's a rate of one fatal accident for every 16 million flights, the firm calculated.

Compare that to 2016, which had 71 civil aviation accidents, six of which were fatal.

To70 studies data involving only larger passenger aircraft, which is why the two fatal crashes this New Year's Eve weren't included in the tally.

Richard Cousins, the CEO of one of the world's largest food service companies, died along with four relatives and the pilot when their seaplane crashed in Australia. Ten Americans and two crew members were killed when their single-engine plane crashed into a mountain in Costa Rica.

"Despite the good news, a note of caution needs to be sounded. Whilst the safety levels of modern civil passenger airplanes remain high, the extraordinarily low accident rate this year must be seen as a case of good fortune," the consulting company said in its 2017 Civil Aviation Safety Review, which noted that air traffic's 3% growth in 2017 over 2016 helped the statistics a bit. "There is no room for complacency. Civil aviation, whilst an industry with a very high level of safety, does still carry very large risks."

In addition, the report excludes fatalities on the ground, like the 35 people killed in Kyrgyzstan when a cargo plane sped past the runway into a neighboring village in January and the person killed by a jet blast as she stood close to the fence at the Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten in July.

MH370 Redux.

http://edition.cnn.com/2018/01/10/as...ntl/index.html

A US Company has identified a new area to search for Malaysian Flight MH370 (further north) and is now rolling out a vessel on the basis that if they do not find it they do not get paid. So if it is good news it should come soon.
