Could be a nice new big station if things go our way.
I'm pretty sure the plan is for Brum to be accessed via a spur rather than as a through station. I think I read somewhere that HS2 don't think a city centre through-line would be feasible. In which case the station might not need to be quite so big.

The bigger the station the less chance there is of it being built in the city centre.

There is definatly scope for platform extensions at moor street and Snowhill. And the track into these stations is wide enough for 4 tracks.

I think thats valid but if they can find space for a new station in london with very high land costs then surely its possible for birmingham. I think our problem is that when you think of sites they have to be in the very centre of birmingham where as with london it just needs to be near a tube station, this is why we are desperate for metro/underground network to make better use of surrounding inercity land which would make the city get bigger but feel smaller.

A few wacky proposals for a station could possibly be the priory square shopping centre which is due for demolition but the new scheme look very unlikely to happen in the near future. Another site could be pavillions / big top with trains literally finishing in the city centre although very unlikely to happen.
The more likely sites would be grand central or the wholesale market site.

You never know with projects like this and rulling out trains into birmingham in favour of a parkway station seems like giving up, its going to be more beneficial to the city if trains run into the centre as to everyone from the west midlands using this will arrive in birmingham via new street so to have to get a further train to birmingham international for example really would eliminate any time savings making the whole project pointless.

just a reminder of what could be potentially done at both moor street and snow hill for a new train station....

Moor Street

...and snow hill!

As has been said on this forum many times before, a new Grand Central is unlikely especially as New Street Gateway is going ahead.

Snow Hill, will hopefully be extended, leaving the city centre with a large, medium, and small station (Jewellery Quarter and five-ways are too far out to count).

Expanding Moor Street into the adjacent car-park and demolishing Shaw's passage looks like the cheapest option (will give Brum two medium stations plus the large New street), unless they go for re-open Curzon Street into Eastside or Wholesale markets or alternatively go for the wacky ‘Paradise circus / Priory Square / Pavilions ideas floating around.”

IMO, a deep HS tunnel system passing under New Street is still the best future-proof option but it is expensive to start (but cheap to expand once started) it will also increase capacity at New Street and could be expanded easily into a connectable underground instead of the ill-fated metro-tram that we have.

Just wondering have there been any more ideas floating around, was thinking about posting all the ideas for a vote on the 'Transport, Urban Planning and Infrastructure' board. 13 ideas so far and counting

HS2 will be a totally different line. Because BNS is there, doesn't mean they have to share stations. BNS cannot accommodate HS2 for a start.

No it isn't. It's in between the through platforms and the terminating ones.

a few points

1) the glass box is located between the tunnel and the platforms and so would not be on this site.

2) this is located on the site of the proposed city park gate phase 1 scheme

3) the construction of a new high speed line from london to birmingham is going to result in the demolition of a lot of buildings, even if a £500,000 glass box was located on the site of a new station, i dont think it would get in the way of a £20,000,000,000.00 infrastructure project

No it's not; in that view the newish vacant glass unit is to the left of the lines running into the tunnel not in the way of Woody's new shed for the HS.
