hkskyline's 2008 MADRID Photo Collection Part 6

Part 5 | Part 4 | Part 3 | Part 2 | Part 1

1. Parque del Retiro is a nice place to relax after a long day walking. I saved this for last as it was my last to-do thing before leaving Madrid.

7. I want to jump into the lake and cool off.

14. Puerta de Alcala is another nice gate that fronts the park. Like many other similar spaces in Europe, it is now a big traffic circle and people can no longer enjoy the historic site.

15. Happily satisfied with my photo-taking, I began walking back to Sol and my hotel to pick up the luggage and head to the airport.

20. Along the way, I passed by some magnificent and monumental buildings.

24. I actually did not expect Madrid to be this grand before I landed here.

25. An intense urban scene .. and architectural scene.

30. Look closely. Is the chariot really going to come off and rampage the town?

33. No ... it decided to stay at its rightful place.

38. Wonder if they got these from the British East India Company?

This concludes my Madrid series. Hope you enjoyed the 6 parts. I'll post a highlights thread soon with more commentary on a few select photos that I liked. My overall impression of Spain changed quite a lot after my visits to Barcelona and Madrid. Previously, I heard a lot of stories about pickpockets and safety issues. But I never encountered any problems, and I felt extremely safe in Madrid. I didn't venture too much out at night because I was dead from walking anyway.

I will definitely come back to Madrid one day to finish my trip. I didn't visit any museum this time, and I did this on purpose. I simply did not have the time to really explore a museum to give what it deserves. With only 1.5 days in Madrid only, I was quite satisfied with the coverage and especially grateful the lovely weather followed me from Lisbon.

Fantastic shots - the light is perfect and the clarity of close-up building detail shots is wonderful! I was taken in by the elephantine embellishments too when I was there .
