Dali 大理, Yunnan Province

今年的复活节我去过大理市。 大理很老很漂亮的城市,所以我照了很多照片!我请你们看看我的照片,希望你们喜欢。
Ok, my Chinese is not that great. I need to practice more so please feel free to make any comments in Chinese and I'll try to respond in Chinese also!
For anyone who doesn't understand, I just said that I went to Dali in Easter this year.
It's a beautiful old city so I took loads of photos which I would like to post here, I hope you enjoy.

When I first arrived in Dali, I expected to see only old buildings like in the tourist photos but was surprised to find that the place I arrived was not old at all. This was Xiaguan, a new city built just south of Dali old town, I was pleased to find that it is also a very nice place, a well planned and smart city.

My first few shots are therefore of Xiaguan, not Dali old town; they will come later.
Starting with my favourite view of Xaguan, I think this is beautiful with the bright orange/red rooves, white walls and the mountains behind. Notice the wind turbines on top of the mountain.
To me this view looks more like southern Europe than my previous experience of China. It's not what I expected to be my first impressions of Dali, but I was not dissappointed!

This however, is what I had come to see - the old city of Dali, with it's ancient city walls and beautiful traditional architecture. Again, I was not disappointed.

Of course, I'm not going to show you all my photos at once otherwise this thread wouldn't last very long, so I'm going to post just a few photos at a time to keep you coming back for more!

Some of the wildlife:

I'm not sure the little boy is very happy there:

This, believe it or not, is a middle school in the old city. Easily one of the most beautiful schools I have seen in one of the most beautiful settings. Apparently it's one of the best in the area and standards are very high.

Ok here are some more photos from Xiaguan, the new town built just south of old Dali. As I said before, I think it's actually quite a nice place; modern and quite developed, but not too big. I hope it does not keep growing too much, I think it has reached about the right size now and I don't want to see it become a big ugly polluted city.

On wuxia series 'Tian Long Ba Bu' mention the name of city Taily or Dali. Is the city on wuxia series similar with this city?

yes, the Kingdom of Dali 大理國. I wonder how history would change had not a traitor open the door to the Mongols that allowed them in. The Mongols had a hard time penetrating Dali's defense until they had assistance from the traitor.
