What happens with those planes though? Last week they told in the newspapers that THAI decided to delay their deliveries by 1-2 years.
They are taking 2 and delaying the other 12...I think.

Thai Airways has asked its suppliers to delay the delivery of 14 new long-haul aircraft by one to two years. It involves twelve Airbus A350-900s and two Boeing 787-9s.
Then

Thai has ordered fourteen Airbus A350-900s. It also has four Boeing 787-9s booked at leasing company ILFC. Thai Airways has already six Boeing 787-8s in use
Maybe they need to offload the A380s first???

The delivery of all 12 ordered A350s would be delayed by this move from the airline. Airbus won't be too pleased about this. But they still have to accept it, they can still reject it. Then Thai will probably still take delivery of these A350s as late as possible before they will have to pay Airbus some penalties. But it will only a delay of several months, not several years.

If deferred until 2018 they will probably be stored, which means they will not be painted in the new THAI livery. Airbus could sell them to another customer, but then they would have issues to find new 2018 production/delivery slots for THAI. The painting will be the best indication (other then an official confirmation) to see if Airbus has agreed to delay until 2018. If it's painted in THAI's livery it's a no to the delay, if it's painted all white it will go into storage.

Boeing has it much easier, just 2 787s with delivery slots not before February 2017. This deferral will only mean 2 more early slots to sell at a higher price.

CAPA did a good analytics piece on Thai 3 months back and they confirm 12 on order too, dunno where the 14 came from. Basically Thai decided not to phase out their paid for 747-400 frames in 2015 as fuel prices collapsed.

http://centreforaviation.com/analysi...stponed-247083

Quote:
Thai Airways now plans to continue operating 12 747-400s, which are in 375-seat three-class configuration, for at least another year and probably longer. The group sees its 747-400 fleet as a flexible asset as the aircraft are unencumbered and Thai already has a large group of crew already trained for the type. Low fuel prices also obviously make 747-400 operations more appealing.
If Avgas prices bounce back hard they will change their minds I am sure.

Capa did an update recently on Thai plans.

This is great news. I guess this means that Thai is still taking delivery this year of the 2 planned frames unlike what was mentioned recently.
