Another good news, Philippine Airlines has firmed the order for 6 a350-900s (and an option for 6 more)

Quote:
Philippine Airlines finalises order for the A350 XWB

Philippine Airlines (PAL) has finalised a purchase agreement with Airbus covering the firm order of six A350-900s, plus six options. The contract firms up a Memorandum of Understanding announced earlier this year during the Singapore Airshow.

Would be a great day for the a350 program if the official annoucement of the China Eastern order happens today as well. If not today, it's definitely in the coming days.

UPDATE:
Oh yes, it did happen today. It's quite rare that Boeing or Airbus get multiple widebody firm orders on a non-Airshow day.

China Eastern Airlines has signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for 20 A350-900 aircraft, making the airline the latest customer for the aircraft...

Not so bad but I wish that strip stretches a little more along the fuselage and the color palette used is more representative of South America.

Odd. Boeing rolled out a 787 for them from paint the same day with the livery clearly visible. Must send Woody to France.

From Australian Business Traveller -
Qantas partner Qatar Airways kicks off its Doha-Adelaide flights today, bringing new-age Airbus A350-900s to the South Australian capital.
But it’s more than just another pin in Qatar’s growing network: the route also marks Australia’s very first Airbus A350 commercial service, ahead of selected Thai Airways Melbourne-Bangkok flights from July 1 2016.

Qatar Airways’ inaugural Doha-Adelaide flight, QR914, touches down at 4:25pm on Tuesday May 3 after pushing back at 9:35pm in Doha yesterday evening, and continues as a 5pm arrival on future dates as a daily service.
On the return, flight QR915 is wheels-up at 9:25pm in Adelaide for an arrival into the Qatari capital at 4:50am the following morning: allowing for onward connections to Europe and the UK.

FAA approves Airbus A350-900 for extended-range twin engine aircraft operations

Latest News: FAA approves Airbus A350-900 for extended-range twin engine aircraft operations

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved Airbus A350-900 aircraft for extended-range twin engine aircraft operations (ETOPS) 'beyond 180min' diversion time.

With the approval, the first FAA-affiliated operators will be able to serve new direct non-limiting routings when they receive their A350s next year, compared with a standard 180min ETOPS diversion time. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has also granted A350 XWB for beyond 180min ETOPS with the recent approval. Read more..

One of three that will bear this livery for a little while (PR-XTA, XTB and XTC). Starting with PR-XTD, these birds will wear the LATAM scheme.

Both are Oneworld members.... But it's indeed a bit strange to say with the strong Qantas - Emirates partnership.

Qantas Oneworld partner Qatar would've been the correct way to word it...

Thai Airways has finally decided to stick to its original delivery plan for the a350 unlike previously stated.

Quote:
No delay for THAI's 12 new A350s

Thai Airways International (THAI) has opted not to postpone the delivery of a fleet of 12 A350s, the latest generation of airliner from Airbus, as considered earlier.

The beleaguered flag carrier seems more optimistic about its improving financial status and business outlook, the results of a painstaking rehabilitation, which obviates the need for a delay in taking delivery of the aircraft, said senior THAI executives.

That means THAI is committed to receive the first two twin-engine A350s over the next two months or so and five each next year and in 2018, all under the originally agreed upon time frames...
