I don't see how you could understand that from his comment.

He said they ordered A350s so that they can eventually cancel their A380s.

They likely have a clause in the contract saying that if they order the A350s they won't be penalized for cancelling the A380s.

Air France will take their B787... their first B787 (LN 500) will enter in final assembly in the next 2 weeks

Don't think anyone wants a319 neo 787-8 or 737max7 frames any more either.
But.. the A319NEO will be produced... and the B787-8.. it still have a lot of unfilled orders

EK swithched their initial first batch of 359/10 orders a few years ago for the 380. It happens all the time, the manufacturer is always happier with a switch instead of cancellations. The rest is all in the wording order/option/switch,cancellation, etc, etc, what really matters is the revenue.

Airbus did the right thing with the a350-800 ( at Paris last year IIRC)

Yes, but Virgin hasn't done an order conversion. They still have their A380 orders on the books in addition to the A350 orders.

You really didn't read what was said in the posts that you replied to.

Those were about airlines that have both the 787 and A350 on order, but are likely to not operate both..... Add Virgin?

Next time please read the posts you reply to, it's just as annoying as the picture spam.

Maybe you should take the same advice...? What you replied to his post had nothing to do with what he wrote.

Anyone heard the 'result' of the LATAM review where they were looking into cancelling 787/A350 orders at the beginning of the summer when IATA was in Dublin. I think their economic situation is beyond merely deferring planes.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...traffic-slumps

Qatar since bought 10% of LATAM which may be a partial answer.

My reply made perfect sense. His reply didn't in the context of the post he quoted. If you can't see that.. bouncing it right back at you....

As for LATAM, for now they only deferred delivery of 2 A350s (and 12 A320neo's) in that would have been delivered in the 2017-2018 time frame.

article from last month:
http://atwonline.com/airline-financi...on-2q-net-loss

The short haul fleet will be hit harder with more deferral of neo deliveries and more early retirements of the current A319 and A320 fleet.

The 12neos showed up as cancelled on the Airbus 08 spreadsheet, hence my interest in the A350s

The Airbus 08 spreadsheet also shows that they converted 2 of the A359s into the A3510, which means a deferral as their A3510s will only be delivered after 2018.

I think they do see a future for their new 787 and A350 in their long haul fleet. It should give them a bigger advantage by replacing their current old A330s and still relatively new 767s with these new planes then the advantage of the A320neo's will give over the A320ceo's. Even their 77Ws will go in 2018, being replaced by the 787s coming in.

They haven't got many 787s coming as they have most of them already or they are built and nearing delivery. The A350 was more at risk if they downsize their fleet especially in Brazil.
