Delta unveils new Airbus A350 premium economy seat

Delta Air Lines gives the first glimpse of its brand new premium economy seat this week, simply named ‘Delta Premium’ and planned to take flight by late 2017.

Being debuted on the airline’s new Airbus A350 aircraft, Delta Premium comes in a 2-4-2 layout, with 48 seats spread across just six rows.

2-4-2 doesn't really seem Premium Economy to me, especially for the center row! That's like a typical economy class seating onboard an A330 for example, just the difference being more seat width and legroom.

2-4-2 is Premium economy? Should be 2-3-2.

The cabin width on the A330 is 5.28m while it's 5.61m in the A350. So you have much more space to keep the seating comfortable.

Singapore has 2-4-2 on their premium economy section in their A350s with 3-3-3 in regular economy.

Cathay Pacific has the same 2-4-2 configuration for their A350s, and 3-3-3 in economy.

Finnair has an even more uncomfortable 3-3-3 on their A350 "premium" economy.

Vietnam Airlines has 3-3-3.

The only airline I've seen with 2-3-2 in premium economy on an A350 is China Airlines.

If we look at different airplane types, the 2-4-2 configuration in premium economy is quite standard:

Air France has 2-4-2 on it's 777s.
Lufthansa has 2-4-2 on it's A380s.
British Airways has 2-4-2 on their 777s.

Thanks for the explanation.

But WTF is up with Finnair and Vietnam on this?! That's ridiculous to call it even "Premium Economy" ... it's barely any different than regular Y-class seating on the A350...

Finns and Vietnamese are not notoriously fat as people go so perhaps they only want extra legroom in Premium Economy rather than extra arseroom.

Finnair markets it as "Economy Comfort" although it's really not much different from regular economy. It only has a bit more room/pitch than regular economy. Honestly a waste of money IMO.

Not sure about Vietnam Airlines.

Oh right, so its the typical european marketing strategy for "economy comfort" ... this never made sense to me. European airlines can be weird honestly...

Vietnam Airlines premium economy on A350 is configured 2-3-2

My hope is that VN start expanding with these things, more Europe, Brisbane in Australia and some USA destinations.

Their Premium Economy on the A350s are configured 3-3-3, same as Economy, but with more legroom.

Beginning from VN-A890 (ex:F-WZFC) Vietnam airlines will reconfig the premium economy class from 45 to 35 and increase the economy to 240 instead of 231.The business class will be "Fishbone" style like their 787 and premium economy looks like a321's business with larger legroom. The Thales entertainment system will replace Panasonic has been used on their 350 leased from AerCap

Oh wow. I didn't know they offer different Business Class products on the A350 and 787. But why the sudden rush to reconfiguration? Why didn't they configure the same products as the 787 in the first place?
