A350-1000 seats 366 in a "standard" setup.

777-300's are nearing the end of their production lives. The 777x variants will seat 375-425 passengers in a standard configuration.
Airbus is really going to need to launch a larger version of the A350.

A380 and 747 are dead. Airlines still need larger planes for the busiest routes and without a larger A350 they're going to lose out.

They would be the largest thrust engines ever built by a factor of 2.

If the A380 was designed today it would be twin engine double decker and right in the game. Oh well.

Back to business. In the 49 'deliveries' in 2016 were the 2 'ex' Sri Lankan frames.

As I understand they are still in Toulouse as white tails and never actually left...or have they been flown to storage in Teruel or similar????

Why are Americans always so enthusiastic and excited about US carriers potentially canceling their Airbus orders in favor of Boeing?

Just inquiring about a rumor that I heard. No celebration was meant to be implied.

All three (NTU) Sri Lankan frames (MSN 52/55/60) were still in TLS last Wednesday (18 January) at least...they have been repainted all white as initially they were rolled out with Sri Lankan tails..

Air Asia is drooling over these A350s

http://centreforaviation.com/analysi...n-a350s-315231

AirAsia X may relaunch London in 2017, potentially with ex-SriLankan A350s

Malaysia’s AirAsia X is considering the lease of A350s or 777-300ERs in 2017 to accelerate its return to Europe. A new widebody type will add cost and complexity but is necessary if the medium/long haul low cost airline is to meet its objective of relaunching London as soon as possible.

AirAsia X had been planning to wait until it receives A330-900neos before relaunching London and commencing other European routes. However the airline prefers not to wait until 2H2018, when its A330-900neo deliveries are slated to begin, and using another aircraft type in the interim mitigates the impact of a potential delay with the A330neo variant required for Kuala Lumpur-London.

AirAsia X could also use a new aircraft type – most likely A350-900s – to support new routes to the US. It plans to launch services from Japan to Hawaii in Jun-2017 using A330ceos, but also has longer-term plans for longer routes from Japan to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco – and potentially ultra-long haul routes from Malaysia to the US.

AirAsia X does not currently operate any very long haul routes

AirAsia X has been intending to use A330neos for resuming Europe

Focus shifts to other aircraft capable of operating to Europe sooner

AirAsia X could end up with AerCap A350s initially leased to SriLankan

A350 would be an easier solution operationally than the 777-300ER

A350 could ultimately become a long-term solution for AirAsia X

The A350 could also be used for North American routes

AirAsia X has opportunities but also risks

AirAsia X strategically needs to make a move in Europe - to lead the pack

Kuala Lumpur-London is a challenging route

AirAsia X will need partners to make Europe routes work

2017 may prove to be a critical year for AirAsia X
