First (as far as I know) major order of the year. Strange nobody has covered it yet.

The A350-2000 or A350-1100 stretch of the A350 is of the table for now.

“We have studied a stretch, the A350-2000, but we have to be conscious that we can’t say market for very large aircraft is very difficult and then launch the A350-2000. When a new generation engine comes out, we will question again whether to do a stretched A350. The good news is we have studied it and it is possible,” Bregier said.

It is not a firm order but MoU-s are almost as important as firm orders. I don't have the stats but a very high majority of MoU-s become firm orders. That makes them considered as orders in a broader sense.

Anyway, my point is that the news was not covered (whether it's an MoU or a firm order), not to argue about the wording.

It is an MoU from Turkish, a proper airline, not like the Amadeo order for A380s which is a nonsense.

Against that there are 10+ -900s and -1000s sitting in Toulouse, built, and Qatar will not accept them. One is a year stored by now , i also see no Aer Lingus A350 loaded in the firing order and they are supposed to take 1 or 2 this year and 9 by 2020.

It may be that Turkish only mop up undelivered and unwanted Qatari planes and unwanted Aer Lingus planes and that the 20 is merely a book cleaning exercise not a net new order. I also note that the 2 Sri Lankan planes that were cancelled in late 2016 are still sitting in Toulouse and that Sichuan 'ordered' them a year back when they were already built.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China has not approved deliveries of the A350 yet. That's the reason why Sichuan Airlines hasn't taken delivery yet.

http://money.cnn.com/2018/01/12/news...ays/index.html

ps. Sichuan A350s are leased from AerCap and ALC, they haven't ordered any directly from Airbus.

As for the Turkish orders, it's just a standard LOI that will turn into an order anytime soom, just like their 787 LOI. Even if they will take undelivered A350 originaly destined for another airline it will still mean that the order will have to be firmed up, together with a cancellation of the old order by the original airline. I doubt that TK will do this, they are not in that much of a hurry to get this new planes.

A noteworthy LOIs that hasn't turned into an order are the 2015 LOIs from Garuda for the 787 and the A350. They have turned to the A330neo instead, so an LOI is not always a certain order.

Turkish have nowhere to put them until late 2019 which is when I reckon that new airport opens properly in Istanbul and Turkish move in.
