Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see this aircraft as a really XWB. Compared to the old and glorious DC-10-30, MD-11 or even the L1011, this A350 is only one more designed two-aisled aircraft. The others were truly jumbo size aircrafts.

It's XWB in relation to the previous widebody Airbus aircraft. Just a marketing slogan.

Besides, in terms of passenger capacity, the A350 and the DC10, MD11 and L1011 are virtually the same.

It's XWB compared to the previous A350 design, which is a re-engined A330

The inside cabin width of an MD-11 is 8 cm's larger than that of an A350-900 (5,69 m vs. 5,61 m). To me that's virtually the same (less than 2% difference). The outside difference in width is even smaller (just 5 cm).

O.t.o.h a A350-900 has a 25% larger wing area and a 6% lower maximum take-off weight (which translates into fuel efficiency). It's fuselage is about 10% longer and it typically carries 16 extra passengers.

Early 2013 apparently

Although the first plane to be assembled will never fly. It will be the structural test specimen and will be tortured until it breaks.

Etihad doesn't seem to be too happy about their A350 order.

Quote:
Etihad cuts A350-1000 order again

Middle Eastern carrier Etihad Airways has slashed another seven Airbus A350-1000s from the airframer's books, more than halving its original order for 25.

Etihad had previously cancelled six A350-1000s and the new cuts mean that its order for the twinjet drops to just 12.

It also means the overall backlog for the type, the largest member of the A350 family, falls to 62 - a disappointment for the -1000 programme which has not landed any orders since the jet was redesigned a year ago.

The large windows on the 787 makes this plane look larger even though they are both nearly the same size?

Length:
A350-900 = 66.89 m
787-8 = 56.7 m

This plane is 10 meters longer, that shows.

Still, it would have been great if the A350 had the same windows as the 787.

If I'm not wrong, the A350 windows are bigger than existing Airbus aircraft and the A350 windows are also wider than a 787's.

The windows on the A350 are wider but lower then the 787.
