Trent XWB engine ready for first flight
A couple of spare engines are being shipped to Toulouse to support the A350 flight-test programme in case an installed engine is damaged, for example by foreign object ingestion. Rolls-Royce engineers will fly on many A350 test flights to monitor engine performance.

"The engines are ready and capable to go to their limits from day one, should Airbus choose to do so," says Young. "The program - which we're fully supporting with our initial flight-compliant engines - has a very clear aim to make sure that first flight is prior to the Paris air show."

You can see the weights more clearly in this photo.

Wow , I hadn't seen it.
Why are they so small , isn't there a specified size?

The A350 is quite an ugly plane like her big sister the A380. And I really thought she would have an EXTRA WIDE body similar to the B777. The A350 is way too thin for me. The wings are gorgeous though.

How about comparing the A350 with the A330? And if it is too narrow, then how would you expand its body without reducing its wing size, width, or shape?

It's just about Airbus raising too much expectation that the A350 will be very wide. Yes of course the A350 is wider than the A330 but only by a small increment, and the A330 has no special nickname like the XWB on the A350.

Well I'm no aeronautical engineer but I guess the wing box can be wider while using the same wing. The overall span will be bigger though. I heard the airlines are dissatisfied with the A350-1000 version in particular because it would seat 35 people less than the B777-300ER in typical 3-class config. I guess we won't see significant changes anymore with this design this late in development. I don't think it's a bad aircraft though. Airbus knows what it's doing.

Making the A350 smaller than the 777 was a good move. Especially since the next gen 777 will be even larger (too big for some customers). This places the A350 in a class off its own between the 787 and the new 777.

There are a lot of A340's and B777-200/200ER's out there and in need of replacement in the next 10 to 15 years.

I like the plane, standing high on its wheels and the winglets / sharklets.. But the cockpit / nose is ugly, should be more round in my opinion..
