The black paint around the rim of the cockpit really improves the over all look of the aircraft

Yes there's a bit of the Ali G about it!

Same here, I thought it was going to be a bit less interesting given the fact that we have the 787 already out, but those wingtips really give it a different perspective, not only that, but the overall fuselage some how makes it look more elegant than the 787.

This will be my new plane of the new millenium.

I just noticed this in a WSJ article:

Quote:
According to the official Airbus price list, A350 prices range from $254 million to $332 million. Boeing’s rival 787 Dreamliner goes for $206 million to $243 million, but airlines typically get discounts for large orders.
They're direct competitors right? How is Airbus able to justify this considerably higher price and why do airlines pay for it? Is it ~30% more efficient?

Its not that simple to explain. I mean, I don't work for an airline but very COMPLEX calculations have to be made in considering which aircraft to choose, how many the need, lease or buy, which flights, what configurations etc. Sometimes, an aircraft may cost more, but in the long run could turn out more profit for the company.

I think they are not direct competitors, did someone has the price of 777?

If you compare the similar size 787-9 and A350-800 you see that the prices are actually quite similar, the 787-9 is about $10 million cheaper. Boeing hasn't listed the price of the 787-10 yet, when that one is known the comparison will be more accurate.

And of course these are only list prices, the actual prices that the airlines pay could be very similar for the competing models of the 787 and the A350.

although I am more fan of Airbus than Boeing, I must admit that B787 is still the most beatiful large commercial aircraft. A350 is nicer than expected (especially those first renders with blunt nose, but still that black mask doesn't fit well. it would fit very well if the plane had dark windshields, but with these normal glasses it simply doesn't look good imo.

however, i think there is really bright future in front of this plane and that it will definitely seal the fate of B747 (although they are not direct competition) and will strike hardly further development of B777.

The A350 and the 787 are really close in size and range so you can bet airlines will pay similar prices for both.

They are not really direct competitors.

The a350 competes with the larger 787's and the entire (current) 777 range as well as their own a330-300 and a340.

The best place to see the orders is Wikipedia, although it does list 1 VIP aircraft too many. That was recently cancelled, but it's not sure which one out of the former 2 should not be on the list anymore.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Airbus_A350_orders

You can also download the Excel spreadsheet with all the Airbus orders ever from their website with all the 616 orders (underneath the summary table):

Nose looks better with a coat of paint. Not sure about those cockpit windows though. Looks a bit like Hamburglar.
