There would be a big gap between the 321 and 359 if the 358 was dropped.

Airbus should of redesigned the 358 wing by making it around 20 percent smaller to save weight. Even a 357 would of been possible to pull off then to compete with the 788.

In the short term, Airbus will increase production and sell as many as they can. In the longer term, the A330 will continue to sell in much smaller numbers. Remember that cargo and military versions of the A330 already exist. These will continue to sell long after the passenger orders have dried up.

I also expect Airbus to produce the a350-800 although this is beginning to look like the odd one out of the family. Wide bodies tend to to better if they are stretched rather than shrunk.

A French newspaper is reporting that the first flight will be on Thursday. This should be officially announced tomorrow.

Then they will have to do high speed taxi test and the rejected take off (RTO) on a dry runway tomorrow. After that it's 2 days of engineering, replacing the brakes and checking everything else again. And then Thursday will be the 1st day it could happen.

But it's all down to the test pilots right now and they should only care about the safety of the plane and subsequently also their own safety. If they say no this Thursday it means it won't fly this Thursday, even if Airbus has officially announced it in advance.

I have to say that the A350 is a much more graceful looking design than the 787.

Well that's a matter of opinion.

Provisional Thursday A350 1st flight

Well the forecast for Toulouse looks poor until Friday and again poor on Sat. with a lot of rain. However if this forecast is anything like UK forecasting, it'll probably be perfectly fine each day!

Looks pretty good to me!

The real deal is the wind, it must be the right side to avoid flying over the city when taking off.

It's in the news today that Air France-KLM and Rolls-Royce have come to a compromise and that the A350 order will finally be firmed up next week at the Paris Airshow. Apparently they are not getting the engine maintenance deal with RR that they want, but AF just wants to end this discussion and fully order the planes.
http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-...googlenews_wsj

This probably means that the 787 engine deal will go to GE, which they would also have chosen for the A350 if it was possible.

ps.
The French air traffic controllers will go on 3 day strike that starts tomorrow. This could have some implications for the 1st flight, it's not a full strike (the strike will move from airport to airport) so Airbus will most likely plan everything around it. But it's of course not a thing that Airbus will be very happy about right now.

Faux pas!

[QUOTE=Space Invader;104143951]Looks pretty good to me!

Embarassing, you're right. Can't even get Metcheck to work so a good job that I wasn't named in the A350 test crew (this time)!

Or maybe they'll have the perfect excuse not to perform the flight, because I'm not yet sure they're very enthusiastic about it either

This is probably the best looking plane ever.

I think the French will put up an AWACS if necessary just to get this baby to do a flyby at the show especially if Boeing are most likely going to launch the 787-10.

Rumor has it that the long standing Air France order will be firmed at the Paris air show. Combined with the pending orders we know about, there is a strong possibility that the order book will be over 700 by the end of the year.

There could definitely be 800 orders by EIS.
