So all of this is metal and not plastic? Or is it plastic that looks like metal?

The cockpit section is metal. Plastic would need metal reinforcements for bird strike reasons.

According to this Russian article Aeroflot will change their A350 order pending shareholder approval on 15 Oct. 2013.
http://www.aviaport.ru/digest/2013/10/04/265159.html

They currently have 18 -800s and 4 -900s on order, with an originally planned delivery between 2014 & 2017.

Now they will change that to 8 -800s and 14 -900s with a delivery date between 2018 & 2023.

This means another reduction of the number of A350-800 on order, based on the current firm total it will be reduced to 79.

~~~~~
As for new orders, the BA (18x A350-1000 20-09-13) & Lufthansa (25x A350-900 26-09-13) orders have been added to the updated order list for September, bringing the total to 725.
SAS has finalized their order for 8 A350-900s on the 03-10-2013 t obe delivered from 2018.
http://www.flysas.com/nl/Media-center/
That makes it 733 firm orders in total.
ps.
I'm following the Aeroflot news thread on Airliners.net, surprisingly nobody even took the effort to Google translate the Russian article. They are all under the impression that it's a new order, just because the thread starter put that in the title. I'm waiting for the 1st reply that corrects their false assumption.
SU just switched the number of -800s and -900s they will receive. That just proves the -900 will be the money maker for the A350 program.
Airbus order for JAL
Quote:
(Reuters) - Airbus appeared close on Monday to breaking into one of rival Boeing's strategic markets with a multi-billion-dollar deal to sell jets to Japan, two sources familiar with the matter said.
The deal is expected to involve the sale of A350 aircraft to Japan Airlines Co Ltd (9201.T) and follows an intense battle between the planemakers as Japan's two top carriers seek dozens of new long-haul jets over the next decade, the sources said.
The JAL order is absolutely amazing news for so many reasons.
That means the orderbook stands at around 764. I said it would be 700 by the end of the year now i'm asking can they make it 800?
Not sure if they can reach 800 but I believe they will announce a few orders at the Dubai air show too.
Let's see what EK does with they're out standing 50 options, and I sense EY will be placing a significant order as well.
The numbers from the Airbus press release:
Quote:
Airbus and Japan Airlines sign their first ever order
Japan Airlines (JAL) has signed a purchase agreement for 31 A350 XWBs (18 A350-900s and 13 A350-1000s), plus options for a further 25 aircraft. This is JAL’s first ever order for Airbus aircraft.* It is also the first order Airbus has received from Japan for the A350 XWB, confirming its continuing success with world leading airlines across the globe. JAL and Airbus aim for entry into service from 2019, with the airline’s A350 XWBs gradually replacing its ageing fleet approximately over a six year period.
Way to go JAL. Alright ANA lets go with your order now. The A350 will break 800 by ears end. We have the Dubai airshow coming up and I bet more airlines are going to order now that the A350 has proven to be a upcoming success.
Such a good news! Congrats Airbus and JAL! Finally the day has arrived, this is a true milestone in the Airbus-Boeing duopoly as Japan was the only large aviation market where monopoly more or less still reigned. I can already picture how glad Mr John Leahy is and what he is going to say again.
By the way, they should use a glossy bluish white like in the renders for their livery. It looks much much better than that plain white.
