That is fast, Mach 0.98 is 1200km/h. That mean the plane break the sound barrier? which is:
~ 1225km/h at sea level
~ 1188km/h at 2500 meters altitude
~ 1152km/h at 5000 meters altitude
~ 1076km/h at 10000 meters altitude

No, they didn't break the sound barrier. Mach 0.98 is 98% of the speed of sounds in the particular medium the object is in at the time.

Mach 1 at sea level (corresponding to 15 °C in ISA) is 1225 km/h, while Mach 1 at 10,000 m is 1078 km/h.

Nice video, though a bit shaky. Good to see the A350-XWB flight test campaign going so smoothly. Practically rom day 1!

Two A350s (MSN 1 and 3) have logged 800 hours so far. Another two (MSN 2 and 4) will join the fleet in February while the 5th and last one (MSN 5) should fly in May.

How many hours need to be completed to pass certification? 2000 hours?

This was expected with the merger, but that it happened so soon it surprising.

Quote:
American Airlines’ Airbus A350s will be A350-900s

In October 2007, US Airways ordered 22 Airbus A350 aircraft, Airbus’ answer to the Boeing 787. On Friday, the order was revised.

In an filing Friday, American Airlines – which merged with US Airways on Dec. 9 – said that the company and Airbus have amended the agreement to state that its 22 A350s will be A350-900s. Deliveries will begin in 2017.
full article:
http://aviationblog.dallasnews.com/2...350-900s.html/

US Airways had 18 A350-800s and 4 A350-900 on order.

With this conversion the A358 backlog is now down to 61. The remaining big customers for the smallest version of the A350 are Aircraft Purchase Fleet (Alitalia): 12, Yemenia: 10, Asiana: 8, Aeroflot: 8.

It would have been a bigger surprise if these orders were cancelled, as some persons on several internet forums were calling for. Luckily AA (as virtually any other seriously run airline) looks at the hard facts of airplanes, and makes their decisions based on that instead of sentiment.

Anyway, this is good news for the new AA and for Airbus since going from A358's to all A359's is upping the original order.
