Is it me or does the A350 look like a cheap knock of version of the 787. I mean the nose design especially. The A350 will never be like the 787 that revolutionized the way airplanes will be built in the future given the problems the 787 has had.

Isn't the A350 more revolutionary as its 10% more efficient?

It can't be a cheap knock-off: developing an airplane is multi billion dollar venture. Even if you take some example from a competitor. In this case I think it's more like a parallel evolution. There are only a few optimum configurations for ending the front of a tube as aerodynamically as possible with an operational cockpit as a prerequisite. Besides, aren't the cockpits of the previous generation(s) of airliners just as similar in appearance?

And you still believe in Santa, how cute and innocent , don't be silly, people tend to disrespect anything beyond American made.

Engine developments are going fast, but not that fast that it will be 10% more efficient. Something that's very noticeable in the direct competition between the A350-800 and the 787-9 were the A350 simply could not compete.

Airbus explicitly decided to be a bit more conservative with the A350 when it comes to new technology then Boeing did with the 787. That's something they actually learned from looking closely at the problems with the A380 and 787. Put the focus more on efficiency (both fuel and production) and less on trying to incorporate every new technology on the market. The sweet ride that the program have had after the initial delays can be considered as a result of this strategy.

It's called convergence. Sometimes 2 people working on the same problem (what is the best most aerodynamic shape for the nose) can reach the same solution because there simply is a configuration that works best.

The innovations of the 787 are overstated anyway:
Getting suppliers to build complete sections which are put together at a central location is something airbus has done for 40 years.

The carbon fibre fuselage is evolutionary because carbon fiber has also been used for primary structure for decades.

There are also disadvantages in using barrel construction and advantages to using panels so there is no clear winner on that.

Bleed less architecture does not seem worth the effort and the electic widow shades are pretty stupid.

Many of the technologies on the 787 are the same as the A350 because that was the was the industry was going, however some things on the 787 seem to be technology for technologies sake.

The A350 is a gorgeous aircraft! Really looking forward to seeing them more often and flying in one. When does EK receive them?

I can't wait for Aerolíneas Argentinas to receive the A350s. They will look awesome in their livery.

As per this CAPA's analysis, EK's first A350 is due for delivery next year. We will see Singapore Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, TAP and Finnair receiving their first one too next year.

They first delivery to EK was initially set for 2014, but with the program's delays it's postponed to next year. The only delivery this year goes to QR, the launch customer.

As far as I know, EK was never going to receive its A350 in 2014. Qatar gets 4 this year, SQ gets 1 this year.

Based on this quite recent article, QR gets 1 this year and 9 more next year. As far as I know, this is the only delivery this year.

I haven't heard of SQ getting their first a350 this year, it would be great if you could post the source of that info.
