An interesting comparison study on Air Insight

It's a bit old though, they clearly had the 787 still at 8-abreast standard. Since the standard has become 9 abreast seating both the 787-8 and 787-9 move to the right within the circle. It's also one of the reasons why the A350-800 became obsolete before the 1st A350 was even delivered.

It will be interesting where the A330neo's will actually end up now the program will be finally launched later this year.

That chart dates from 2012 and would now look different with today's knowledge. Latest info suggests the A330neo will get new winglets and other aerodynamic tweaks to further reduce fuel burn.

Airbus has successfully performed certification testing to demonstrate the #A350 XWB’s ability to operate on wet runways

The 787 window is bigger

787: 10.7" by 18.4"
A350: 11.2" by 16.5"

Butthurt huh? If you really didn't care about it, you wouldn't even mention it, let alone call it a gimmick.

Electric window dimming is an option on the A350.

They are still rather large hence they are 'similar'

Fair enough, I remember they said they would at one point but they seem to have changed their mind:

Quote:
Airbus considers offering dimmable windows for A350 but only when the technology is mature to block out 100% of the light.

After 787 Li-ion batteries issue, Airbus has adopted a “minimum-change approach”. So they may eventually offer electrochromic dimable windows on it’s the A350 but only when the technology is "sufficiently mature" to block out 100% of the light entering the cabin.

The poster asked a rather ambiguous question which I thought would be best answered by covering all bases.

And yes, I do consider 'window shades' that have to be covered up with cushions, safety cards, and purpose made self adhesive stickers in order to block the light out a gimmick. Taking away the passengers ability to completely block with window is a step back in my view.

Rolls-Royce has dispatched the first production Trent XWB engine to Toulouse, France, to power the Airbus A350 XWB aircraft as it prepares to enter commercial service with Qatar Airways later this year.

So up until now it was just test version? I guess this is the first final spec engine.
