The A350 nose is nothing like the A380 one...

I don't see how it could be any more sleek, it's perfectly pointed?

Travel on Air Asia X's A350 in economy (10 abreast) when they get them and see how you go.

And here is the fresh confirmation by Airbus.

Quote:
Delta orders 50 Airbus widebody aircraft

25 A350-900 and 25 A330-900neo to join fleet of leading U.S. airline.

20 November 2014

Delta Air Lines has placed a firm order for 50 new Airbus widebody aircraft, 25 A350-900 and 25 A330-900neo aircraft. Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines will power the Airbus A330neo aircraft and Trent XWB engines will power Airbus A350 XWB aircraft.

“When the most successful U.S. airline today – a company that has flown passengers around the world for more than 80 years, has 80-thousand employees and 165 million customers in a year – says ‘yes we want 50 more of your widebody planes’, you can’t debate the fact that it is a massive endorsement of your product line,” said John Leahy, Airbus’ Chief Operating Officer – Customers. “Airbus is unique in offering an optimized long-range choice in aircraft that will allow Delta to continue to modernize its fleet and customize its use with the most efficient and comfortable aircraft available.”

Delta Air Lines currently flies both Airbus single-aisle and widebody aircraft, including 57 A319ceo and 69 A320ceo aircraft, plus 11 A330-200s and 21 A330-300s. In addition to the order announced today, Delta has an order backlog of 10 A330-300s and 45 A321ceo aircraft, bringing its total Airbus backlog to 105 aircraft.

The A350 XWB is the latest addition to the market-leading Airbus widebody product line. Offering its customers a 25 percent reduction in fuel-burn, the all-new mid-size long-range A350 XWB Family aircraft can seat up to 369 passengers in a typical two-class layout. The A350 has a carbon fibre fuselage and wings and sets new standards in terms of passenger experience, operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. At the end of October 2014, the A350 XWB had won 750 orders from 39 customers worldwide.

Now this is a promising sign for the A350, thanks to Delta's recent large order for the aircraft type (and also the A330NEO):

Delta Order Affirms the Age of the Airbus A350 Is Approaching

The article affirms that while the B787 has gotten a lot of press attention (for good and bad), the A350 has gotten orders from all the Big 3 US carriers (American, Delta, and United), making it a great candidate for the airlines' next flagship long-haul aircraft. It also means that the influence of Boeing on all 3 carriers (especially in the long-haul market) is slowly weakening, despite their strong domestic bases for Boeing aircraft.

Quote:
For years, every twist and turn in the saga of the development and introduction of the Boeing (BA) 787 Dreamliner has been carefully charted in the aviation media.

Now, the Dreamliner has a competitor for the airline industry's attention. The first Airbus A350 will be delivered next month to state-owned Qatar Airways. And Delta (DAL) on Thursday announced an order for 25 aircraft, meaning that unlike the 787, the A350 has collected orders from all of the big three U.S. carriers.

"The A350 is the second new generation twin-aisle aircraft to reach the market," said Richard Aboulafia, aerospace analyst with the Teal Group consulting firm. "That's going to help shift Airbus' market share back toward 50%, at least until the 777X arrives."

I agree. The black paint around the windows completely ruins the A350's look.

Can customers choose whether they want to have this eyeliner around the cockpit windows or not?

Soon Airbus A350 XWB Will Meet Boeing 787 Dreamliner in the Sky -- Which One Will Fly Higher?

Nasdaq, the leading tech-based stock exchange in New York, is weighing in on the future of the two lightweight, long-haul wide bodied aircraft, the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A350.

Quote:
Remember the epic boxing match between Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed? That's a clip that probably every American loves to watch. There's a similar duel going on between European aircraft major Airbus and its American rival, Boeing.

Airbus, the dominant player in narrow-body jets, wants to challenge Boeing in the wide-body segment that has been the latter's forte all along. It's made its intent clear with its brand new built-from-scratch A350 XWB aircraft that will soon start flying, and take on Boeing 787 Dreamliner. According to experts, the A350's smooth development and certification processes as well as structural advantages may help the jet become popular very fast. Surely, Boeing won't like that.

Is this a real challenge? Or is it just a "challenge," the type of thing news outlets say when they mean two things will be competing for business. Because I'd love to see an A350 vs 787 skills competition where they push both planes to the limit to see who flies higher, who flies faster, etc.

That would be a really good question... if it will be a real challenge, then you know which airline could do that: Qatar Airways.
