What are you talking about? It's almost the same as the 777.

Yup A350 is almost sane in maximum takeoff weight
Zero weight is only 114 ton, but maximum takeoff can reach 310 ton
FYI The fuel that was reach 160.000 kg can be more efficient 15% than 777-300er

Maybe that is his problem, making it similar to the 777 when there's already the 787 interior to compare it with.

Even if you compare it to the 787, the overhead bins which were specifically mentioned look almost exactly the same.

It's absolutely not. It looks like a cheap knock off of it. They could have executed it so much better. I'm sure this aircraft will turn out to be a great one. But as far as aesthetics go, Airbus were way off the mark with this one IMO. Not that it really matters that much to airlines what it looks like though.

Why the change? Is it Cathay Pacific backing off or Qatar Airways lobbying?

Quote:
Airbus A350-1000 launch airline to be Qatar in 2017

Qatar Airways will be the first airline to fly the Airbus A350-1000, giving the fast-growing Gulf airline a prestigious double crown as launch customer for both the initial A350-900 and its larger longer-range sibling.

"The A350-1000 is next on its way, and yet again Qatar Airways will be first airline to receive the A350-1000, which should be entering service in 2017" said Mike Bausor, A350 WXB Marketing Director, speaking at today's official launch of the Qatar A350 in Doha.

Cathay Pacific, Etihad and United Airlines have also signed on the dotted line for the A350-1000, which will carry an estimated 350 passengers in a three-class layout compared to around 310 passengers in the A350-900...

Probably they don't want to get early frames, which could be overweighted.

It might be because Qatar was supposed to become the launch customer for the A350-800. With the termination of the that program Qatar converted those orders mainly to the -1000. These conversions probably put them in front of Cathay in the production delivery schedule.

Looks like money can buy you anything if your one of the ME3s in the aviation world.

Money buys you 80 A350s, and buying that many planes gives you some preferences over other airlines.

In this case it's also a compensation for a bit of a delay as the 1st -800s were supposed to be delivered earlier then the first -1000.

If so, Cathay must be p***ed off. Btw, in which quarter of 2017 is the first delivery scheduled?

Maybe they did it with the approval of Cathay and perhaps for something in return?

The most detailed 1st delivery date for the -1000 is 2nd half of 2017.

And as I don't think that the Cathay deliveries are being delayed with Qatar taking over as launch customer I don't think they will have an issue with this change. And as Dam said, they probably got a bit of extra discount from Airbus as compensation.

btw, what is the schedule for the 2nd delivery?

Earlier this week the second A350 for Qatar Airways (MSN7) completed final assembly and was moved to the flightline. She has already been painted in full livery.

Delivery is scheduled for late February.

Airbus' goal is 15 deliveries this year.
