Out of curiosity, what were you hoping for? Finnair unveiled this livery a few years ago, and didn't announce any plans for a special livery so... weird that you were expecting something.

I don't think the A350 is a copy of the B787... I think it's rather a response to the Dreamliner... Both use a large amount of composite and have a smooth shape, but the B787 is rather a replacement of the A330, while the A350 is rather a replacement of the A340/B777

ps: I think both are great planes

Everyone from numerous forums across the internet addressed the similarity between the two planes.
We really need a dislike button in this forum for this kind of post. lol

I do quite like the simplicity of the Finnair livery on the A350

The A350 was a forced response to the 787. At the time AB did NOT want to build this plane. They were betting on the A380 as the way of the future. But they saw that wasn't working, and the 787 was really selling, and so was the 77W. The were forced to try and cover both markets with the A350.

The 1st proposal for the A350 was a forced response, that was basically a A330neo. Airlines didn't really go for it back then, forcing Airbus back to the drawing board. Out of that came the somewhat larger A350 XWB, that was launched in June 2006.

So even then Airbus took a bit more time (although back then forced by their customers), creating a project that is different enough to compete in a slightly different market segment then the 787.

Taking their time was also a good decision later on, as we all know they executed the A350 project much better then Boeing did with the 787.

I don't think that is true. Airbus never believed that a 500 seat plane would be 'the future'. They did the A380 to solve a particular problem which they identified. Of course it was never going to be their most popular widebody.

However they where caught by surprise when the A340 failed in the marketplace and the 787 came along to compete with the A330 (the A330's success also took Airbus by surprise somewhat)

OK so how is Airbus supposed to fit 10 seats into the A350 and still keep seat width at 17 inches?

There was a story posted on the 777 message thread here that Singapore Airlines wants to restart the LAX-SIN and EWR-SIN non-stop routes.

There's an easy way to do this: convert a small part of the 70-plane A350XWB-900 order to the A350XWB-900R model. The A350XWB-900R--based on the same seating configuration as the current A350XWB-900--has an estimated range of 9,300 nautical miles; by limiting the seating on the plane to an all-Business class configuration seating around 110-120 passengers maximum, this plane could easily fly non-stop on the non-stop routes I mentioned.
