no its private residential. rule of the thumb is to simply count 10 feet for each floor so this will be what? 140m? 150m at a push if we're lucky.

I keep on saying and I'm sure many people will also be saying this, but we need a 170m tower somewhere

Its all guess work at the moment, the official height will be known when the planning application goes in. It is in a predominately low rise part of the IoD so a 47fl tower of around 140-150m would be good going so quit moaning.

i wasnt moaning at all, just that a skyscraper with an interesting shape should have a more significant height
Its not short, but it will have a negligible effect on the skyline

Of Course it will have an effect on the skyline.

I don't know if you know the area but this will be the tallest building on the Eastern edge of the IOD. Where this will be primarily viewed from in Greenwich and the East it will make an impression on the skyline. It will certainly make an impression on the immediate area where everything else is around 2-6 fl.

Looking at that mock up, it looks as though it will be built where there is currently a really dated row of terraced houses - that's the only place I can think of where it will go. I can't imagine you would get compulsory purchases on them so might it be a bit presumptive to even say this might happen although it would look ten times better than what is there at the mo (sincere apologies if anyone lives in one of those houses)

Second thoughts - looking at it again I think it is at the bottom of the garden of the terraces. Those residents are going to be over the moon!

Its the block facing the docks not those terrace houses, but yes I don't think those residents aren't going to like looking at that from the bottom of their gardens.

from the buro four website (thanks to london lad for mentioning it earlier):

http://www.burofour.co.uk/casestudie...newcastle.html

"Buro Four is providing full project management services to Dollar Bay, a 47-storey residential tower in the Docklands area of London, adjacent to the South Dock that includes 250 predominantly private residential units with a proportion allocated as intermediate units. The tower also includes a three storey basement car park and a CHP plant that provides energy to the building. The works are adjacent to a conservation area, dock and live lock."

So unfortunately that quite clearly sounds like it's mostly residential and will stay below 150m..

Great =/
I agree with beleevme - a tower with a shape like this would have looked considerably better if it were taller.

agreed, with all the nearby towers at Bank street and along the north of the IOD (Landmark, PP, the upcoming Crossharbour one) being around 150m it would surely have helped to have one tower (especially a quite outstanding one as this one looks like it could be) to have peeked over all this height uniformity..

Wouldn't it lose some of it's cobra-esque proportions if it were taller/more elongated? I feel that the current height shows off the elegant curvature pretty nicely.

Perhaps it could just be BIGGER!

Either way it's exactly what right-angle city needs!
