"The project is being managed by Buro Four and tentatively has a start date of March 2010 with on-site completion in September 2013. Public consultation for the scheme began in May followed rapidly by the developer having filed a scoping opinion with Tower Hamlets council."

I hope that plan was done recently and not some years ago. We all know what happened to this kind of plans in the last one or two years. However if they are still serious about this information (you know more about the recentness/reliability of this tentative start date, James? It certainly has to be tentative seeing that they don't even have PP for it, but the tentativeness can either be a "we dreamed a long time ago this might be happening then" or a "if we get PP we get right down to business") it would be very exciting news, maybe the most exciting since a very long time - that start date is almost only half a year away!!!!

PS: thinking more about it this would probably be the first project start on a roughly (should be around the 150m mark, I don't care about a few meters more or less) skyscraper sized building (as far as I'm aware everything else going on right now had started demolition/construction already before) since the beginnings of the credit crunch..

ok here's some background. developers first approached the residents of dollar bay to buy it and develop it in 2003, 3 storey block, 18 flats, and a value in 2003 of £10.4 million. complete in 1997 with 125 year leases. and here you are -

Well as would be expected a greedy flat onwers wants £1 million for his
flat, so that puts us up to the £18 million+ ball game. Does that price us
of the market?

I no longer have a problem with you keeping this a secret. I.e Dollar Bay is
for sale, if anybody is interested, get them to give me a shout.

We've had some interest, but as I've said before, one
of the flat owners is asking to much. Needless to say, we are trying to
reach a compromise. They may problem is the terraced houses directly
behind, this has scared alot of developers, off. They believe they will not
be able to get planning permission for a tower, becuase it will overlook the
back garden of these terraced houses.
if public consultation was done in may,and you can get the scoping opinion on it now the plans sound pretty recent. it's been a long time coming though.

The info about start dates is on the Buro4 website . I wouldn't get any hopes up for this starting in March 2010. Buro4 are the consultants of the scheme it will be up to the developers when to start this. A planning application is yet to be lodged so it would probably be next spring earliest for this to get through planning (if it doesn't run into problems). There's also the fact that this isn't an empty site.

If I was to guess I would say, provided it goes into planning soon and the market picks up it could possibly start from 2011 onward.

It looks like a lava lamp, not impressed anyway. I like my refined Isle of Dogs boxes as it is.

you're right, don't know how I missed that key facts button. It's also saying "Completion: May 2012" - unfortunately even less realistic though than the Sep 2013 from above

Thx, James. That quote was surely interesting, was that still from 2003 though or is it an ongoing story?

Gothic, it seems like ages since I contacted you about Dollar Bay. It's interesting to finally see somebody attempting to get planning. When we contacted the planners for a 50 storey building we were told it was totally ove the top. How things change. For those interested in the selling saga, look at the land registry history for E14 9YJ Lawn House Close, you can see how the flats were bought up.

I would imagine they all made a nice little profit when they sold up to the developers.
