Alençon : Normandy (France)
Quote:

Rouessé-Fontaine is just before the exit to Alençon, still in Sarthe (former County of Maine) as Alençon used to be a border-town for Normandy. image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Reaching the suburb of Montsort and entering Normandy : image hosted on flickr ![]() Some pics from the centre-town : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() The Castle of the Dukes : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Rue de la Cave aux Boeufs : image hosted on flickr ![]() Rue aux Scieurs : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Around Notre-Dame : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Around the Town Hall and the Castle : image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() image hosted on flickr ![]() Going North towards Caen ! Great shots, and it looks really pretty. My surname is from Normandy, so I've always wanted to visit the place! Been in France lots of times, but never managed to make it to this region

To be frank, the modern Orne département is not really what people associate with Normandy : in many ways, "Orne" (Alençon, Argentan, Sées, ...) is still part of the Western French mosaic. I'll soon post some pics of "archetypal" Normandy (modern départements of Manche and Calvados) : you'll get to see the difference.
