Plans for a new double track line from Gulskogen to Hokksund have put out to public consultation. This will be a low-speed line with it designed for only minimum 160km/h between stops. This project is not included on the map on the previous page btw.

A new side track to Voss Water facilities in Iveland outside of Vennesla was opened on the 15h of June. It is estimated that it replace 7000 yearly trips with trucks. One 22-carriage train will depart from the factory each day.

In Norway there is a tradition for the Norwegian state broadcasting company NRK to a have a special talk show called Sommeråpent that is only broadcasted during the summer months, and on the radio they have a similar summer-only program called Reiseradion (the traveling radio). Sommeråpent used to be broadcasted from one specific, albeit summer-related location in Norway - examples of past locations includes the national opera house in Oslo and the Aker Brygge '80s post-modernistic district, also in Oslo. While the concept behind Reiseradion was that the reporters should be travelling around to different locations in Norway and report from there. Sommeråpent and Reiseradion have in recent years been partly merged and now both programs travels around the country together. Last year this round-trip was done with a customized boat called the "Summerboat" which visited places up and down the Norwegian coast and broadcasted from there.

And now we come to point that is relevant for this thread: This years travelling will be done on the Norwegian rail network with a customized train set called the Summer train. The train will visit station all along the line and even pick up passengers. The first program in the series will be shown tonight which will feature the stretch between Bodø to Rognan, the Northernmost end of the current network. It is scheduled to stop on the Mørkved, Tverlandet, Valnesfjord, Fauske stations along the line.

I have to say that I love this covert promotion of train riding. Hopefully it will result in even more new-found vigor for investment into our train network.

A small upgrade of Østre Line towards Askim that is currently going through planning. It will basically be a re-alignment of the line into Ski station as the current alignment have been identified as a possible bottleneck after the completion of the Follobane projet. It's currently singe track from Ski, but the new stretch will be double tracks all the way. It also includes the widening of 1,5km of the old line into double track. It will feature four tunnels.

Red line is the new alignment while purple is the current one.

The process for acquiring new trains for the local line L1 and L2 in the Oslo area was started earlier this month. Norske tog AS are now looking into possible suppliers for the order. The requirements will emphasis high capacity and strong acceleration and it must be able to carry out quick stops at stations even when many travelers go on or off. These new trains will result in the phasing out of the aging Type 69 trains (first introduced in 1970) from the Oslo network.

There was an accident during the construction of the Follobane project. One of the vehicles that transport concrete elements for the tunnel walls lost its brakes and had to driven into the wall in order to stop it. The driver broke two ribs, all five similar vehicles was taken out of service for a control (and four was later put back into service again) and the tunnel boring machines had to temporarly halt their process while the vehicles were inspected.

The municipalities of Tønsberg and Nøtterøy have rejected Bane Nors proposed route for the new double track inter-city rail between Stokke and Larvik. The track is planned to go through the municipalities of Larvik, Sandefjord, Tønsberg and Nøtterøy. Bane Nor have now given the task over to the ministry of Transport and Communications who will make a decision on it. But this means that the the stretch between Stokke and Tønsberg (which lies in the municipalities that were opposed) will be delayed until a decision have been taken. The planned step will therefore be split in two and the planning of the part through Larvik and Sandefjord municipalities will be prioritized first and expedited.

Construction of the area surrounding Ski station taken by me today. It is part of Follobane project and marks the southern end of the line. It will include a brand new station for Ski.

The whole thing was broadcasted on Norwegian television btw. I do wonder if any other countries have hours and hours of basically uncut train footage braodcasted on their main television channels? It's quite unique I think, but I believe it is quite popular among the Norwegian public as NRK have produced a lot of variants of the theme now.

And a map over the planned routes:

Progress as of 18th of July on the drilling of the new tunnel between Bergen and Arna. It is very close to completed now. I think it should be done next or so. It's the blue line.

Overview. We are looking at the bend at the end towards Bergen,

Nice design, but I'm afraid everything will be brown/dark grey after a year.

A look at the alignment chosen for the planned new double tracks between Nykirke and Barkåker in Vestfold. It will be 14km long, have three tunnels, one stop at Skoppum with three tracks and two platforms, and will allow speeds of 250 km/h. The Skoppum station is located a while outside of Horten and commuter parking will be established around the station.

Bane Nor and Sarpsborg municipality have looked at different options for the new double tracks and road crossing the Sarp Foss in Sarpsborg. They recommend that there should be undertaken an impact assessment on two options which are marked in red ("nord for Olavsvollen") and cyan ("midt") on this map:
