What's scary about a freeflowing interchange? It's much safer than other types of interchanges.

"Americanised" is the key word in his post. I think he objects to the sharp ramp curves and the right-hand exits and entries (which correspond to left-hand exits and entries in right-driving countries since New Zealand drives on the left). Both of these features are common in American freeway interchanges from the period of first Interstate construction.

I think that's in Shanghai. Perhaps just a decorative architectural element. Looks like from another planet though.
