One of the great cities of North America: Vancouver | Part III

I took many many photos so here is Part 3:

He went to Vancouver towards the end of his trip which makes me appreciate this quote all the more. He visited Vancouver in December of 2001.

Quote:
Vancouver, which has fewer than two million people in its metropolitan area (and which is not located on Vancouver Island), is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its physical setting is spectacular, with magnificent mountains running down to the sea and an array of public parks beautifully preserved. It offers all that the U.S. Pacific Northwest offers and more. It is a dynamic, prosperous city, in large part because of its status as a modern melting pot, a gateway to and from Asia. Canada actively seeks and encourages immigration as the United States once did. Large numbers of Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Europeans, Iranians, and others have made the city their home. It reminds me of what New York must have been like at the turn of the twentieth century. In a hundred years, maybe a couple of hundred, unless somebody does something really stupid, Vancouver, one of the great cities of North America, will have become one of the great cities of the world. - Jim Rogers
And here are the pics. Afterwards, let me know if you agree at all with Jim Rogers. They were all taken around the downtown peninsula. The more nature-oriented ones were taken in Stanley Park, Vancouver’s premier downtown park.

Priceless pics. Vancouver is very lively and cosmopolitan.

This city would be the perfect background town for a TV series.

^Yes it is illegal but, in terms of policing, BC is very lax when it comes to marijuana. Policing tends to focus on producers and smugglers as opposed to consumers so you can literally walk down the street smoking a joint here without much issue, lots of people do. Basically, just don't blow smoke in a police officer's face and you won't have any problems.

This particular cafe however doesn't actually sell you marijuana inside like in Amsterdam, not officially anyways. People just bring their own and there are tables for rolling joints and everybody smokes in there and you can get nachos etc. to eat. However you can easily buy some within the vicinity.
