Brisbane and Noosa - Australia

I visited Brisbane for first time - in last June/July

Its a winter getaway to the north of Australia - from a cold Melbourne!

View from balcony @ Aurora - Brisbane

Density!

The view!

Lets venture the town!

It seems the heart of the city -Queen st Mall!

The Casino - grand from outside - its not so grand in the inside

The Art Gallery precinct @ Southbank

It was reasonably visited by people but seems so far away to walk there...

Love the new GOMA thingy!

The China project

The Southbank & Surrounds

Man-made beach?

reminds me Singapore or something like that!

The Botanical Gardens and the Riverfront

I jogged to this area each morning from Aurora

Gold Coast, Stradbroke Island and Redcliffe

....

We hire a car to visit the suburbs like Paddington to dine at Montrachet and also surrounding areas such as Red Hill and Ascot to check out the houses. I adore those Queenslander homes....

We did venture areas like GC, Stradbroke Island and Redcliffe ...

Redcliffe and surrounds

I am amazed by the local councils attempt to design their esplanades and coasts.. just simply wonderful (and very white!). I note that there are so many low rise apartments in this area

Its a relaxing area and you feel you are in far flung holiday destination rather than being a part of Brisbane suburb!

The Gold Coast

I have mixed feelings with GC... its iconic but it seems behind in time in many ways... I am hopeful with those exciting projects currently underway will revamp and reinvent GC to its former glory. And currently its a 80's legacy on the coast (think of Linda Evans)...!

It was a fantastic day whereas the weather is so enviable and the coast is just awesome!

The only glamour girl at the moment (not to forget the Cavill towers)

A hot guy i cant resist!

I missed Melbourne already then!

She is pretty hot!

Oooh.. Noosa!

....

We stayed @ Sunshine Beach - 5 minutes drive to Hastings St - the main drag of Noosa

The apartment that we stayed overlooked the ocean and its only 1 min walk to the coast - an endless long stretch white sandy beach with beautiful panorama ....

The beach mansions dotted the coast are just so pearly bright, stylish.... and immensely huge ....

The sun shines each day despite its in the middle of winter....!

Sunshine Coast and surrounds

My locale street @ Sunshine Beach ...

The view

Our locale shops/restaurant @ Sunshine Beach

Hastings Street and surrounds

This is interesting area which reminds me of the old Melbourne - yet its in tropical surrounds and in the very white colour.
I like the way they designed the pavement cafes, shops and the restaurants - its so handy and abundant...!
Last time i came here in early 90s and it has changed so much...

There is a saying that in winter especially - 'Noosa is Melbourne in shorts'. Its interesting yet its partly true.. There are so many Melburnians i have observed - in their usual blacks reading the Age newspaper in the cafe/bistros around Noosa!

We had 12 course degustation at the 2 hats Berrardo restaurant - the locale establishment... the chef is from Melbourne.... and its highlight of the holiday...

IMHO - Noosa is the perfect and foremost beach holiday destination in Australia...

Our little bistro - perfect for breakfast...

Lovely Sails restaurant (1 hat)

The Noosa locale beach

Noosa river and surrounds

We drove to venture other parts of Noosa - and it has a river frontage as well! Its perfect and scenic and plenty of shops, parks and cafes around...!

hawt jogger

Him again!

Other highlight was a lingering 3 hours Sunday lunch @ Wasabi
A local japanese gastronomic temple just relocated its premise to the river front.. and it has attracted buzz around the town and country (its finalist of Gourmet Traveller for best regional restaurant in Aus)
Despite it has great view - yet the service is impeccable whilst the food is divine! I almost kidnapped the chef/owner!

At 5pm - the restaurant finaly quiten down - ready for dinner...

the view from the bar

Noosa is just so warm, relaxing and its very easy to get around. Noosa offers plenty of attractions - the coast, river and hinterland (yet to be explored) and it has avoided highrises and focused on the very chic developments instead....
Personally, I would love to win lotto and live there tomorrow!

Noosa was recomended by a physician friend of mine (and Cairns) about ten years ago as the place to live/vacation.

He moved to Australia (from the USA), and I didn't, unfortunately.

Thanks a million for the tour for us antipodean forumers.

Great pix of Brisbane!!!

I agree the Casino looks great from the outside but inside is pretty dull...

Why did you bother with Redcliffe? You know people there? I remember Redcliffe being bogan/white trash central in the 80's... I'd say they are cashed up bogans now with all those waterfront properties...

PS - you thought the Art Gallery and GoMA were a long walk from the city centre? Didn't the walk take you 10-15mins?
