August 2 2011 at 01:03pm INLSACape Town Stadium is Ajax CT's new home for the next three years. Rodney Reiners Sports Staff Ajax Cape Town have secured the Mother City’s iconic World Cup venue in Green Point as their home ground for the season. The Cape PSL club announced today that they had signed a three-year agreement with the City of Cape Town for the use of Cape Town Stadium. “Cape Town Stadium is a public asset and managing it requires the demand for its usage by local organisations,” said Ajax chief executive George Comitis. “We have plans to make sure that our partnership with the city works to the benefit of all Capetonians.” They had been nomads but now they had a world class stadium. Comitis said the deal, which will be reviewed year by year, had been structured around five different categories – crowds of 7 000, 10 000, 15 000, 22 500 and 40 000 – and the cost calculated accordingly. Grant Pascoe, the city’s mayoral committee member for events, marketing and tourism, said: “The deal will be beneficial to the ratepayers of the city and we hope that Ajax will be able to now use the facility to win the PSL title.” rodney.reiners@inl.co.za |

CT Stadium Ajax's new home
Ajax Cape Town have revealed they will play all their home games at the Cape Town Stadium for the next three years. ------------------------------------------------------------ Bet on world football at Sky Bet ------------------------------------------------------------ This news should finally end speculation over the future of the iconic World Cup stadium with many soccer supporters still of the belief the structure would be torn down if not continually utilised. The Urban Warriors revealed on their website that an agreement has been reached with the City of Cape Town. Ajax CEO George Comitis said: "Cape Town Stadium is a public asset and managing a public asset like this elevates the demand for its usage by local organisations. "We are proud to be associated with the Cape Town Stadium and to call this our home. We have plans to make sure that this partnership works to the benefit of all Capetonians. "We are privileged to train at a world class facility like Ikamva and play at a world class venue, the Cape Town Stadium. "This has always been the vision of Ajax Cape Town football Club." Ajax Cape Town also reported a 150% increase in spectator attendances at home games when they used the stadium last season with over 31,000 people in attendance at their final Premier Soccer League clash with Maritzburg United. |

Good News from LALA land.
image hosted on flickr ![]() SAIL score with Ajax Cape Town Issued by: SAIL 3 Aug 2011 12:50Submit a commentBizLike Leading PSL soccer side, Ajax Cape Town, has awarded sports and entertainment solutions company, SAIL, the right to be their exclusive commercial partners with immediate effect. Football is no longer just a game. Now a multi-million rand industry, business is made from the beautiful game through merchandise, players, tickets, development, advertising, competitions, coaching, rights, hospitality and property. Partnering with a sports business specialist is vital should you wish to fully saturate the clubs current and potential commercial revenue streams. With this in mind, Ajax Cape Town appointed SAIL to not only grow the clubs offeringsbut work with the club in extending brand awareness and loyalty. With years of sports commercialisation experience, SAIL will provide the attacking force required to ensure that the club makes full use of its assets in terms of hospitality, advertising, ticketing, sponsorship, licensing and marketing. In addition to this, SAIL will look to further strengthen the Ajax Cape Town brand through its CRM programmes, ticketing solutions as well as LED digital advertising platforms all of which have been implemented at several major stadiums throughout South Africa. SAIL CEO Justin Sampson believes that this is a safe and sound bet for Ajax during the tricky transfer window. "Our experienced team line up provides a methodology that is geared towards professional team and stadium commercialization. Having successfully implemented a similar commercial model at the Vodacom Blue Bulls for the last two years, we have witnessed firsthand the increased revenue streams for the union with greater merchandise sales, more bums on seats, new sponsorships and improved brand awareness. This partnership will allow Ajax management to focus on players, strategies and on field antics, whilst we deliver off it." Ajax Cape Town CEO, George Comitis, further explains the decision to appoint SAIL: "We believe that SAIL offer a holistic commercial solution that will complement our objectives. It will be their mission to maximise what we currently have in place as well as to create additional income avenues. So whilst we turn on the heat on the pitch, we leave it to the industry experts to score outside of the white lines." Last edited by Mo Rush; August 3rd, 2011 at 01:55 PM. |

Rugby may be coming to CT Stadium
Alicia Pillay | 26 min City councillor Grant Pascoe on Wednesday said that rugby at Cape Town Stadium may become a reality in the near future. Pascoe confirmed the city is in talks with Western Province Rugby Union about bringing the game to the World Cup venue. On Tuesday Ajax Cape Town signed a three-year deal with the city to secure the use of the stadium for soccer. Pascoe said they are keen to make rugby part of the mix as well. “We will assess it year-on-year and then I think going forward we are also looking at some other codes to also come in as well, so that’s going to benefit us tremendously. It will up the usage patterns and it will also bring us a variety of codes,” he said. (Edited by Lindiwe Mlandu) |

WP again in CT Stadium talks
Cape Town - There are renewed talks about Western Province possibly playing their rugby matches at the Cape Town Stadium. Theuns Roodtman, the Western Province Rugby Union's chief executive, told Die Burger newspaper that they "are in talks with the city" (Cape Town's City Council) about a possible move from Newlands to the new stadium in Greenpoint. This possible move was previously discarded as "impossible". Roodtman was not willing to elaborate on the issue. Grant Pascoe, Executive Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events & Marketing, said Cape Town's City Council would welcome the move from Newlands to the Cape Town Stadium. "These are tough and honest discussions. It's not an easy decision for the WPRU. There are various role players. Newlands is 100 years old and there's a lot of sentiment." According to Die Burger, Newlands has a capacity of 45 000, compared to the 55 000 of the Cape Town Stadium. |

This was the announcement:
Cape Town Stadium Hosts Cup Clash 10 Nov 2011 - 10:45 Saracens are pleased to announce that the club’s Heineken Cup match against Biarritz Olympique will be played at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday January 14th, 2012. Rugby history will be made at the new stadium, a 2010 soccer World Cup semi-final venue, when the English champions host the French glamour club in the first Heineken Cup match ever played outside Europe. Saracens chairman Nigel Wray said: “As a club, we want to push boundaries and to stage big rugby events that people want to see, and the prospect of playing such an important match at a beautiful new stadium on a summer’s evening in the Cape is fantastically exciting. “We have been a north London rugby club since 1876, but we have added a strong South African flavour, with Remgro as 50% shareholders and around a dozen of our players having strong South African connections. “It makes perfect sense for us to play a home game in South Africa, as we work hard to expand our commercial and supporter base.” Mark McCall, Saracens Director of Rugby, said: “Cape Town is fortunate to offer two exceptional venues for rugby. We enjoy an ongoing partnership with the Western Province Rugby Union, and only this week released Springbok prop Deon Carstens to join the Stormers, but the players are looking forward to playing Biarritz at the new Cape Town Stadium. “The match will be closely watched throughout the rugby world, and we want to perform for Saracens, for the Heineken Cup, and for Cape Town.” The Round 5 match in the pool stages of the northern hemisphere’s premier club tournament will kick off at 17h40 (local time), and will be broadcast live on Sky in the UK, on terrestrial channel France 2, throughout the rest of Europe, across the Middle East, North and South America, Asia and Australasia. Local bands will perform on the stadium surrounds before and after the match, creating a unique festival atmosphere in the Cape sunshine. - Saracens News

maybe not. WPRFU have to vote on it and the old farts seems to be anti any rugger at the new stadium.
the sooner they go and WO starts acting professionally and not run by the amateur clubs who think small scale , the better for WP and SA rugby in general. Look at bulls, sharks and lions, all run by professional arm with clubs and amateur rugby minor stakeholders not THE only stakeholders. WP could be one of the richest clubs in the world by knocking down and re developing newlands. City supports medium hight density resi/train station set up. take long term lease on new stadium, sort out suites etc, knock down newlands and develop shit loads of resi which they can retain on a yield basis thereby driving long term returns and monthly cash flow. Imagine if only the me me me amateur clubs could think outside their little boxes.
