Palac Kultury i Nauki (PKiN) has 230m and it's the biggest buliding in Poland. On the top we can see everything:

Fantastic updates, especially the night shots at the start of the page. Warsaw's skyline is really something! Equally though, the older palaces like that of the last picture are sort of unique to Warsaw, yes? I mean style wise.

Warsaw's palaces are one of its unique urban forms, that is, a dramatic baroque main facade with two side wings enfolding a court of honour where you would find a garden and sculpture etc. Poland at one time had a very wealthy aristocrasy and they liked to show off. After clearing all the ruins of WWII, the old medieval walls were discovered relatively intact and thereafter parts were rebuilt such as the Barbakan. The old city is where the famous Warsaw Uprising was faught. A very unique city of contrasts that can delight and disturb at the same time...such is history.

Well, before the ww2 Warsaw was one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, with many palaces and splendid houses. During the war it was completely ruined. I mean completely. That's why there's chaos in some areas and so much commieblocks in center ( ).
Very little of the original beauty of this city survived the war. Fortunately Old Town was rebuild.

From what I saw 15 years ago, a lot survived or was rebuilt, but you are right much was not or was rebuilt but stripped of all decoration. More and more of this city is being rebuilt or restored every year. North side of Place Teatralny was rebuilt in the 90's and hoepfully in the next 5 years the Saski Palace will be rebuilt.

Warsaw was quite chaotic even before the war and living conditions were generally much lower...
