Some thoughts from me who live 12 387 km from Buenos Aires:

The Retiro railway station looks a bit gloomy but very elegant, it seems to be oversized or is it crowded here at rush hour?

I would like to se some photos of long distance trains. What is the most distant destination that you can reach from Retiro ? Is it Tucuman ?

Yes, today the most extense railway it's Tucuman.

I'll write this again :

Today, the Train Stations of Retiro (Mitre, Belgrano Norte, San Martín) is being restored on the glass ceilings (and soon in the facade). When it was built, in 1915, it was one of the biggest train stations in the world. It was made by british capitals, and you can also see the british touch in some details of its architecture. Almost 100 millions passengers use the stations every year.

Thanks guys!

Ps: The glass ceilings are the train shed, the rail yards don't have ceiling.

News: The chinese company CMEC approved a new credit for USD 2.4 billion for the tracks and cars renovation in the cargo trains.

The national company Ferrocarriles Argentinos and the ADIF (infraestructure agency) award the 200 km complete renovation of tracks in Linea San Martin Buenos Aires - Mendoza railway in 420 days.

The renovation consist in the replacement of all elements (tracks, changes, sleepers) to increase the speed in the corridor (160 kmph max.)

The Ramal Ferro Industrial de Río Turbio it is a narrow gauge (750 mm) railway branch located at the southern tip of the province of Santa Cruz, Argentina. Currently it is only used for cargo, linking the coal mine of Río Turbio, in the Andes Mountains and near the border with Chile, with the port of Punta Loyola, in the vicinity of Río Gallegos.

These Mitsubishi locomotives came in the early sixties and ran for over 30 years without interruption until early 1996 because the lack of spare parts and skilled labor.

In this time two locomotives were rescued from Río Turbio to be repaired and put back into service as a tourist train that will start running soon.

What happened to the Rosario line upgrade? Is it ready? Last I remember it was still running just one train a day at an horrendous speed...

Yes, is in progress but the switches are old and special (the british heritage ) and the replacement becomes slow.

The 3000 cargo wagons and 100 locomotives arrives to Argentina in this year and the next.

The national company Ferrocarriles Argentinos Infraestructura Ferroviaria S.E. will renew 3000 km for USD 5.2 billion.

Is it a Greyhound dog logo in these railcars?

By the way, these railcars have AAR couplings. Argentina uses European buffer-and-chains couplings.
