Yes, the buffer-and-chains couplings will disappear because there are plans of using AAR couplings on freight trains since the 70s! The Greyhound logo implies 'high' speed (among the national rail standards) capable wagons and it's a legacy from old Ferrocarriles Argentinos state company...

We are asking the same here! There were some problems and the work rate has diminished a bit, but the upgrade still goes on. IMHO, that will be ready in early 2016. By the way, this is the most recent video of Buenos Aires-Rosario intercity train:

Buenos Aires-Mar del Plata corridor upgrade

Here are some pics from Juan Enrique Gilardi's Facebook account about the new Salado River bridge:

These are about the track doubling and road crossings between Mar del Plata and Camet stations:

As a bonus track, the new Chascomús station:

In the source there are a lot more photos about this corridor...

Amazing updates guys! Loved the video of the train in Pigüe with that beautiful combination of landscape and sunset, and the pictures of the works in the Buenos Aires-Mar del Plata corridor

Well, the good news is that they're all being changed for the new trains that were brought from China. The new material is cleaned as soon as they get those graffitis. That ain't happening with the old trains (most of them appear in the video).

Almost all the older trains of Linea Roca will get retired in December, when the last of the new CSR trains will enter in service, and the electrification to La Plata will be finished. But a few older Toshiba from 1985 will stay in service, after some re-up.

Does anyone know of a good map or other source which shows all OPERATING railway lines in Argentina? Both passenger and/or freight.

I've seen old maps that show the network as it once existed, but clearly most of those lines appear closed now. Looking at the network in Google Maps it appears many cities have minimal functioning railway facilities, despite having a lot of abandoned infrastructure that appears to have been very grandiose in the past.

That's fantastic, thanks.

How similar is that map to one showing all lines currently in use for either passenger or just freight, or otherwise slated for future re-opening or repair? Are the orange lines listed as "suspended" still used for freight?
